Salomon Men's X Ultra 4 Low Rise Hiking Boots

Excellent walking trainers. They're comfortable and offer excellent grip over rugged terrain. I live on the coast and walk my dog along the coast path, traversing steep, rocky and craggy. They are an ideal weight for walking. The are reliable over slippery wet rocks. The gore-tex works perfectly. I haven't submerged them but I walk through long wet grass. Most of all I find them comfortable. I have worn them most of the summer and they don't overheat my feet. They didn't rub from day one. The speed laces or drawstrings w/e they're call are working well. These are my regular size and they fit perfectly. I'm happy with the quality, they're expensive but it's worth it as the quality is so high.

Tght and not waterproof at all. Had to go back.

I typically wear the Salomon Speedcross. I have a thinner foot and the Speedcross fit a tad better. I wanted something with a little more room for heavy winter socks. I don't see how these would be a good running shoe but they work great as an everyday or light hiking shoe. I purchased these thinking I was buying the GTX version but realized it after wearing them a couple times that they were not. This is my fault and not Salomon or Amazon. I would suggest the GTX version to anyone out there looking. These breathe much better however because of their ability to breathe my feet get wet just walking through grass.

This hiking shoe was close to perfection with nice color, design, good fit out of the box (does not fit narrow like the Ultra 3's), light weight, good cushioning and support, no Gore-Tex so breathable. Unfortunately, the top of the shoe was poorly designed, so with every step the sides actually dig into your ankles! You will notice them with the short time trying them on standing in place, and appears it is quite a common issue based on many other reviewers who tried the shoe. I had to return them right away.

The first pair was large although I ordered my normal size. An exchange later, I have to say that these are a good investment. They require a break-in period but soon become very comfortable. I feel more support in these than in my usual hiking shoe. I may have to think about another pair but for warm weather hiking. It has been about a year since I purchased these so I thought I’d update the review. These are great shoes. They are waterproof, comfortable, have great support and rigidity. They stabilize my foot and make hiking a better experience. I will be buying another pair of these shoes.
