Go Fish, I said to my little 3 yr old great nephew. He some how knew that he had to thread the line through and was ready to fish in just a few minutes. I asked advice from several fathers who were in the fishing rod department. Then through the magic of the internet found just the right rod. No a toy, but this will grow as he does. Do not buy a toy as it will be broken in just a second and the line tangles....a waste of money and time. the swan

While the pole is ok and the attached kit is fine, the reel is worth than worthless. Used by an 8-year old under close adult supervision, the reel needed 30 minutes of untangling for every 60 minutes of use. Twice it needed to be completely disassembled as the tangles were internal. There's a line-retaining clasp mistakenly placed on the side of the rotator in a perfect position to grab any excess line left over on a cast, practically guaranteeing a lockup on the next cast.This purchase has been a disappointment to son and father and worse than a waste of money, it's been a waste of opening day.

This product looked promising but I wouldn't waste your money. First off the reel came malfunctioning (which I saw from giving the reviews a second glance is a recurring problem) and within 2 uses became completely unusable. Also there's only a 1 month return window so if you don't return it before then tough luck. It's a nice idea and the tackle box was a nice touch, (although most of it useless) but not worth it. Even if it had worked properly it was still difficult for a child to operate. Honestly, you'd be better off purchasing a Disney princess rod from walmart for $5.

I bought five fishing poles for five little kids for a family vacation. The kids were going to use this for surf-fishing... mostly just to "hang out" with the adults. This was missing a part on the reel, and we couldn't use it at all, not even once! We even went to 2 local bait and tackle shops to try to get a replacement part. Talk about having a disappointed group of kids on vacation!!Now that we're home from vacation, I'll take the time to return the rod.I recommend that you look for a different rod if you're in the market.

This looks like a nice pole, however the packaging was not good and the pole arrived with the tip broken off. Just a little more effort in packing the item would have helped greatly.

I originally purchased for my 3.5 year old to use at our beach house however after she lost interest my big kid/husband took over. He caught some crazy fish in the lake with this pole and the tackle box is excellent.After a while I started feeling bad for him watching him in the backyard with this tiny fishing pole so I purchased him his, also by this manufacturer but good for the ocean too.He caught a huge Striped Bass his first time out with it. Now...I know nothing about fishing but I must say I've made my family very happy with these two purchases. Good Luck!!

This product lasted for 2 fishing trips then broke in half. I don't recommend this reel for children age 10 years

This is a real fishing pole. It is well made and my 4 year old loves it. I was looking for exactly this type of product - a scaled down fishing pole that my young son can use.Be advised that it is a real rod and reel and that the line can get tangled (exactly the same as adult fishing poles) if the reel is spun in the wrong direction. Not difficult to untangle/fix, but if you have a young child (like I do), you just need to monitor/assist when they use the pole. Other than that, I highly recommend this pole.

It works well for the kids but the real needs connecting to the spool after they cast.
