The Picture Bible

Takes me back to my early childhood days. I am so happy to have been able to find this in new condition. When I was younger, it helped my reading skills to improve and broadened my imagination. With that it made me want to read it and stay with it continuously as a child. On that note, I learned and was able to recognize and know all the major stories in the Bible. It is such a great buy for any one of all ages, not only just parents with young children. Even though, it is in comic book format it holds interest, with that being said. It is the best bible I have ever had as this is my 3rd one in my lifetime from childhood to adulthood.

Reading the Picture Bible is a great and quick way to learn Bible history in chronological order. The illustrations are great,,,very detailed. The stories are broken up into "chapters" of 3-4 pages with each chapter ending in a cliffhanger. The next chapter always begins with a short recap of what just happened in the previous chapter. The whole book is written and illustrated similar to comic books with what the characters are saying enclosed in bubbles. I would say its appropriate for ages 8-12. I am currently reading it with a 12 year old girl. She gives no indication that she considers herself too old for it....maybe because the illustrations are in no way childish but meant to appeal to older children. The only thing I am disappointed about is the fact that they skip several great stories. Two that I can think of offhand are: 1) Solomon displays his wisdom when he has to decide which woman a baby belongs to. He proclaims he will cut the baby in half and give half to each woman. The real mother protests and says to give the baby to the other woman. The false mother (jealous that her real baby died) says, "Yes! Yes! That is a good idea. Solomon says to give the baby to the real mother. 2) The story of the woman in the New Testament with the issue of blood who thought "If only I could touch the hem of his garment, I will be healed." I am still giving it a 5 because there aren't any other illustrated Bibles on the market to compare. If I could give it a percentage rating, I'd give it 95% which is still an A+!

I Love This Picture Bible!! I am 64 years old, and maybe the oldest kid of all !! Years ago, I bought these Bibles; one for my own children, some as gifts for other children, and also for other families with children. In one family the dad, who did not like to read at all, read this through and loved it. It is a great way to introduce the Bible to those who might think the Bible is boring or hard to understand. What is really nice is that you can get a quick, Big picture of the main stories throughout the entire Bible. You don't get slowed down with lots of details. You get the main stories with their lessons quickly; and then compiled one upon another, so that reading this becomes a "shot in the arm", or a therapeutic dose of God's Word. It is a Great way to get the Full, Big Picture quickly before going into a much slower detailed, and completely accurate study of God's Word. I just spent the last 3 weeks reading through this Picture Bible yet again. It did for me exactly what it did for me the first time I read it; when I read it over 30 years ago. It built my Faith in God very strong!! It reminded me of the extreme importance of our obedience to God. It reminded me of the very harmful consequences of sin and disobeying God!! It reminded me of God's Goodness, Forgiveness, Grace, & Mercy!! It made me think about how we cannot ever afford to compromise, but rather give God our Very Best; and to do all things by Faith in God. It reminded me that God alone is my BEST Strength and Help!! It rekindled a "Fire" in my heart. I am now purchasing these Bibles again to share with more children; hoping that the Picture Bibles will also fall into the hands of more adults who will read them :) Shalom Blessings!!

Dieses Buch darf man als Kunstwerk bezeichnen. Es ist ein sehr schwieriges Unterfangen, das Buch der Bücher zu einem "Comic" zu komprimieren. Es ist dem Illustrator wie auch dem Texter, wie ich finde, gut gelungen. Beide haben sich große Mühe gegeben. Jede einzelne Zeichnung zeugt nicht nur von viel Talent, sondern auch von Sorgfalt und Reflexion, was etwa Personen, Kleidung, Bauwerke und Landschaft angeht. Dem Texter ist es m.E. gelungen, den Stoff möglichst verlustfrei zu komprimieren. Leider ist ein solches Buch derzeit nicht auf Deutsch erhältlich. Es bietet jedoch eine gute Gelegenheit, Englisch zu lernen oder zu vertiefen. Ich habe einige Bibelausgaben, und diese ist eine ganz besondere. Ich kann allerdings keine gelehrte theologische Kritik dazu vorlegen. Das sei Anderen vorbehalten. Ich finde aber, dass diese Ausgabe auch Erwachsenen gefällig, erbaulich und unterhaltsam ist.

Questa Bibbia è molto colorata e mio figlio lo ha letto tutto. Ma gli dava fastidio che tutte le persone sono con la pelle chiara rendendola una versione poco accurata.

Like many who have purchased this book now, I first received the Paper Back edition of it as a child at age 9 as a gift from my mother. My older brother got a copy and my Mom's best friend bought one for her daughter at the same time as well. I remember as a 9 year old being absolutely glued to this book. I couldn't put it down as the comic book format made it so fun and easy to read. It was this book that gave me my first real insight into God and to the history of the bible and everything that has happened in it. This book is what I like to call "Child Friendly" and it re-words some of the more adult oriented scriputres that deal with Homosexuality and Sodomy and that sort of thing to make it more understanding for children who are reading it. While this book is a perfect and fun introductory to the Bible for children, I must also emphasize that it is very important that when a child is old enough to move up a level to a a regular Bible that they do so as soon as possible so that they can learn to connect and put into context the stories they read in the Picture Bible to those that are in the regular Bible. To this day I still own my original Paper Back edition of this book, but it has been read so many times that it is more or less falling apart. So when I saw that new editions have been printed in Hardcover I couldn't believe my eyes as I thought this book was lost to history. My local Christian Book and Music store couldn't even track it down and told me they had never heard of it before. I will most likely order several more coppies in order to preserve this excellent work and to have so I can pass them down to any younger Christian kids that I may meet.

This book is for those who are serious in showing their children the way of LIFE. My children went through 3 copies of it. Now my grandchildren are going through this book that brings the Bible alive. Children love reading it because it’s presented in a comic form. Before you know it, they’ve covered the whole Bible and are able to recount what they read. I as an adult even read it because I’m a visual learner. This is the book that got me to understand what prophet Ezekiel was on about! 🧐.
