Best bike lock with the best features
I picked this bike lock because it hits a lot of great selling points (more info below). I wanted something better to protect my bike while I go into shops or restaurants. I exclusively commute on my bike, so I'm forced to leave my bike outside and in the open. This lock gives me the peace of mind that nobody will take my bike while I'm away. The lock works very smoothly and I have never had a hangup with the key. The coating does an excellent job at protecting the paint on my bike (no scratches!). It is quite heavy, but it's high quality stretched steel. The lock mount is oddly shaped and can be difficult to find a place to mount it onto. I keep the lock in my backpack or satchel instead. Pros: -Hardened, stretched steel -Double bolted square shaped locks -Smooth working lock -Protective rubber coating -Medium shackle length -Two keys, one comes with a light -Replacement keys are easy to get from ABUS Cons: -It's heavy -Mount is tricky to use Here are some specifics: It can resist ~13 tons of cutting force, ~7 tons of pulling force, and 1,300 Nm of twisting force. It uses a double-bolted square shackle. The square-in-square shape prevents twisting. That doubles the locking force as well as resistance against tools.

Love this lock. I think a power cutting wheel is the only thing that will defeat this one.
Expensive, but what a great lock. The key engages and turns like butter (important to me after replacing two cheaper u-locks, in two years, that the keys finally couldn't turn any more from binding-up). I've had this lock for a year, in Seattle weather, commuting at least five days a week without interruption (all seasons) and the lock appears to be weather proof. It's heavy, coming in at about 3-1/4 lbs. for the 9" and 3-3/4 lbs. for the longer 11" model (I own both). But when you weigh 250 lbs., and ride steel frames, it's less than 1% difference relative to the cheaper, dead, discarded u-locks I've had. If you're riding carbon, and are skinny, well, I can't imagine you would want this lock stealing back all the reduction in weight you're enjoying. This does not come with the frame mount, bought it separately (about $25). It, too, is excellent, no rattling, easy to remove and return to the mount. The lock's square shackle, hopefully, means that anyone using a power cutting wheel would have to make two cuts, because the shackle does not twist in the lock like round shackles can. The shackle feels stiff/strong enough that a thief would be hard-pressed to bend the shackle after a single cut.

More satisfying than the other U-lock
I've been a Kryptonite user for years, and I still am. I think they make great locks, very sturdy and intimidating in that they pose some difficulty to a thief, enough to be a deterrent. However, they don't perform well over time. They don't like being outside for long periods of time, which is understandable. They stick, and eventually it was taking me several minutes to get my yellow NY U-lock unlocked. No amount of maintenance would help. So I got this thing. It's great. It stays outside with my bike in all weather and it works. Silky smooth. And it's just as strong if not stronger than the Kryptonite equivalent. I love it. It's expensive, but you might have to buy it only once if you only keep one bike outside.

Peace of mind for bike security
Super heavy and super heavy duty! We feel our bikes are safe locked up while we go into a building abd that they will still be there when we come out. Don’t drop this on your foot-it will hurt!! Don’t ask me how I know

Tough lock for real protection of your bike
Great lock; my daughter has a "girls" bike" and it didn't really have anywhere that we could mount the lock so she has to carry it in her backpack when she's riding. But it is very sturdy and we feel that it provides great protection for her bike (on a college campus). She uses this lock to secure the front wheel and frame to the post, but also uses a Kryptonite chain to lace through the rear tire (not as a secure, but faster than using 2 U-locks).

High Strength, Easy to Use, Expensive but Reliable
No lock is impossible to break, but this one comes pretty close while still being versatile. It's a good size to lock the back of my bike frame and wheel (including an electrical motor) to an adjacent rack. Also works to lock the front wheel to the frame. The key mechanism is still smooth after 1 year and a half even with exposure to rain. I use it along with another ABUS folding lock when I need a more flexible locking configuration, and my bike hasn't been stolen yet, so I guess it's doing its job. If you ever need to order another key, it's pretty hassle free using the given card. Allow for about 2 weeks shipping to US, so I would recommend replacing your spare immediately once you've burned through one.

Deterred Thieves at least once
A bit heavy and expensive, and the bracket was pricey, but when someone tried to cut through it with a hacksaw, they broke through the rubber exterior, scratched the steel core, and then gave up. About 5 tries around the lock with a saw, and no luck for the robbers. They blemished an otherwise very pretty lock, but that's all. Very pleased with the performance. Honestly, I'm surprised they tried at all. To pick this thing up, it reeks of quality and high-end design. Doubles as a weapon. I'm sure the right tool exists to cut it, but the sound it would make and the time it would take would make using such a tool challenging if not extremely difficult in any outdoor setting. This has now paid for itself.

Why is the lock pictured WITH THE MOUNTING BRACKET if you don't actually get that?!
It's a great lock (I've been using them for years), and the price is very reasonable (compared to other u-locks of similar quality). However, I find it ridiculous that the picture of the product here on Amazon's page shows it WITH THE MOUNTING BRAKCET. Don't show a picture of something you won't be getting! Why does this even need to be said?! Very disappointing. EDIT/UPDATE: I must say that after voicing my displeasure to Amazon's customer service, a fair and reasonable resolution was offered. My thanks to Amazon for that.

This has been the best investment I’ve made for securing my electric scooter. It’s built like a tank and gives me real peace of mind whenever I’m out and about. I’ll flag up front that it does add a bit of weight, especially if you’re carrying it in a backpack without a rack or saddle bags. But in my view, it is absolutely worth it. The build quality is exceptional. It’s long enough to secure around less conventional objects when proper racks aren’t available, and it feels like it would take serious time and effort to even attempt cutting through. In a public area, that kind of delay is exactly what you want. Before buying, I did a lot of research and found that even the Lock Picking Lawyer gave this one a nod. It uses a disc detainer lock, which is extremely difficult to pick without specialist tools. Of course, no lock is invincible, but this one is about as secure as it gets for the price. I always lock up in busy, visible areas and never have to worry once the ABUS is in place. It’s a premium product, but the peace of mind is worth every cent.
