Perfect entry-point for getting started with electronics or just building up your passive components
This is a great box! I haven't worked with electronic components for over 30 years and this was my return to the hobby. I was able to dig into the parts and build a 555 timer circuit with just the parts in the box (plus a power supply). The only issue I had was that a few of the shorter blue lead wires were faulty. I thought I had wired my circuit improperly until I replaced them with other colored wires and it worked. No big deal, they are cheaply made, so I expect some faulty ones. It happens. Most of the rest of the lead wires that I used worked fine (I didn't test them all).EDIT: After using the kit for a while, I discovered that all of the jumper wires in this kit are useless. They introduce a lot of noise and they short out too much. I ended up discarding all of them and making my own jumpers from solid RJ-11 wire. I also use jumpers from a kit I bought for my Raspberry Pi from Adafruit industries. Those are much better. Not knowing what I was doing, I did manage to burn out three of the lower voltage LEDs. I started using the high voltage/super bright LEDs instead so I wouldn't blow them while experimenting. Then, once my circuit was finished, I added the correct resistor so that the low power LED wouldn't blow.Having two 555 timers in the box was cool because I started working on a circuit that used the output trigger on the first 555 to drive the second 555 so it would blink twice for every cycle of the first timer. Then, I look up transistors on the Internet and built a quick circuit that helped me understand how to use a PNP or NPN with the momentary switches included in the kit. This one box kept me busy for four hours, without using a computer or microcontroller.Fun stuff.
