The problem: contractors prefer to put square drains in tiled shower stalls because it's easier to cut the tiles to fit around. The problem is that you've got a square metal area surrounded by tile, so nothing really fits right or stays in place in such a way that the hair doesn't sneak underneath.If you put this silicone hair catcher in the middle position as shown, it sits perfectly inside the square to cover the drain holes. As long as it's in place before you start running the water, it will sit firmly on the metal and not move. This works. Nothing else we've tried does.
