This 1947 mystery starts with an unreachable client and one too many fees
Perry Mason gets two checks in the mail and no instructions from a client he can’t reach. According to her husband, the client has just run off with a much younger man. The husband is a rather shady businessman. One of the checks is forged. This is just the beginning of the confusing elements Perry Mason has to sort out in The Case of the Lazy Lover.Mason’s client is eventually arrested for murdering her husband. She lies To Mason and the police — but so does everyone else at or near the scene of the crime. Perry’s lead detective Paul Drake is kept too busy investigating to get any sleep, right up to the dramatic court scene. This is an intricately plotted crime legal thriller, and an engrossing read. The details that tip off Perry Mason to the truth are particularly satisfying.
