Piano Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding: A Guide for the Professional, Student, and Hobbyist

I actually got the book for a junior colleague who started learning the trade. I have a copy myself and because of the detailed information and practicality of the content, it’s always been satisfactory.It’s a major reference book for piano technicians.

Plenty of history information contained in this book which helped me identify possible types of wood my piano was made from.

Piano is a very complicated mechanism and should not be modified by any one unless under a very experienced piano technician as a supervisor. This book is not a text book for training would-be technicians. I do not deny a usefulness for a pianist to know the mechanism of pianos, but assigning a screw driver to him is quite another. If you tamper with a piano, e.g. try to tune your own piano, you will end up paying a fortune to a true tuner who will be obliged to do totally unnecessary adjusting jobs. Just read this book, but do not think of fixing your piano on your own. If you are really interested in piano repairing, hire a technician and ask him to teach the craft of the job. Knowledge without experience is surely a misunderstanding. You cannot know anything without proper experience.

Great book. The information in this book is encyclopedic in scope, and extremely informative. Don’t even TRY to be a piano tuner without this book! It goes into great detail about tiny parts for the action, and it explains in great detail everything you need to know about how various actions work and how to repair, replace or regulate them.

I've owned a copy of this book before, just updating to new edition. Covers everything even an amateur piano player might want to know about rebuilding (I'm getting my action rebuilt now, so I want to be able to ask intelligent, useful questions.)
