Buyer Beware
I have had the worst time with this company. I ordered this expensive scale and when I went to put it together it was missing key components: hardware (screws, etc.) and carpet feet. I contacted Amazon and they let the customer know. The customer wrote me back and said “Jennifer, are you sure you looked under the base?” (Where some of the screws were. I was like really???? I finally got the screws but no carpet feet. I contacted them yesterday and they said they “have no more”. Detecto is a great company, but this 3rd party seller has shoddy customer service.

Very precise -- by trickery
I've had this scale for about a week, so I can comment on it's performance but not yet on it's durability. It is very precise. If you step on and get a weight, the step off then on again, you get the same weight -- to within the readout's limit of 0.2 lbs. You can repeat this several times, and always get the same number. I find this very helpful for my personal weight loss efforts. (My earlier $120 mechanical fat-man scale gave on-off-on-again weights that varied by 5 lbs or more, meaning you couldn't track your progress any more frequently than every couple weeks. With this Detecto, you can track daily.I can't say how ACCURATE the scale is. When it reads, say, 262 over and over, the real correct weight might be 280 or 240. I have no way to know. It does read maybe 8 lbs over my old scale, the imprecise one. For personal weight loss this uncertainty doesn't matter. I only care whether I'm losing, not so much what the absolute number is.I thought the readout on a post feature would get in the way, but it doesn't and it makes the numbers easy to read.Works on AAA batteries, which is handy for home use. These scales do seem to be made and marketed for doctors' offices. The construction is solid, the post is metal. The function pad/readout and plastic height measurement stick seem to me a bit flimsy for expected rough use in a doctor's office.FOLLOW UPWe've had the scale for over a year now. It still works well. But the apparent fraction-of-a-pound accuracy seems to be something of a trick. If you step on the scale and get a reading of 252.4, then step off and back on, the second reading will be 252.4 -- the same. You can repeat this on and off over and over, and generally get the same reading, repeatable to 0.2 of a pound.BUT if you get a weight, then TURN THE MACHINE OFF, then back on, and weigh again, you get a DIFFERENT READING. 251.6. Or 253.4.So apparently the scale includes software that "corrects" consecutive similar weights so they read the same, and suckers like me think the scale really is that accurate.Still a good scale though. Would buy again.

Poor customer service/ manufacturer defect
Very poor customer service. After we received the item, we assembled in about a week and we realized there was a manufacturer defect in the height scale, we still wanted the so we requested a replacement and I clearly explained what the issue was. They responded requesting photos that we sent and we never heard anything else since then. So we’re just stuck with an item we paid almost $400 for unable to use or getting it replaced.

Not consistent at all
If you are a registered dietitian stay away from this scale. I had a devs 703/704 scale for over 12 years. It didn’t budge from a weight. Whether you turned it on or off. Or moved it. But this scale has fluctuated constantly. My clients are very frustrated. I am going to try to return mine.
