Dying for a Thrill

The Mark King mysteries are quite violent with an unlikely cast of characters, starting with King and his aides. This story takes place in a blizzard with a group of nerds trying to take down a lot of bad guys. It is touch and go for them, though the King group never seems to be unsure or feel endangered. Justice is harsh and sure for King without the niceties of trials. As usual, the Chicago Police Department and other investigative organizations seem untrustworthy.King and company see a lot of action, but there isn't the realism and family developments of other series. It is still a good read.

Zubro has provided a roller-coaster of a sequel to his first Mike King Mystery,  Dying To Play . Mike and his redoubtable team are faced with conspiracies within conspiracies within conspiracies, as they try to protect their client. The action is non-stop, the characters well-drawn and nuanced, and the mystery in this mission is indeed a puzzle. It kept me guessing. And, of course, it's fun and sexy! Mike's being single allows for a modern Gay version of the hot detective with his many conquests. Mike's team of Duncan, Georgia, and Jerry are at the top of their game, and we meet some additional Chicagoland allies as well. Set in a horrendous Chicago blizzard, this is a page turner.

This was a great read with a good story line and constructs excellent characters. and looking forward, hopefully, for further stories regarding Mike King. Mark Zubro has been a consistent writer of LGBT themed mysteries over at least the past decade or so and would recommend any of his earlier books.

I am a fan of Mr. Zubro's work. His story telling is quite good, his characters are always a bit over the top either "hyper masculine" or just the opposite, and that is a bit annoying , but the content and storyline somewhat out-weigh this.

This is a new series by this longtime author. It will take me, more than one story to get used to new characters. The plot was clearly drawn and the plot moved right along. I would recommend this one to other readers of this genre. You can't miss with anything from this author.

Good read

While the plot was farfetched, I enjoyed the novel quite a bit. I’d like to have a bit more depth of character, but, as a representative of the genre, the book works. I am glad that Mr. Zubro has added a new detective to his stock
