Beautiful and efficient
High quality and pretty. The ebony is essentially non existent being hidden under the block plane itself. If you want to save money the company does have a cheaper option. From the blades and chisels I have from them along with this I can atest to my trust in their quality control. Allyouneed is a nonmarring form of hammer to adjust the blade. Hit the blade for a deeper cut and the back of the block for a shallower cut. If the frame had more weight it would be easier to use do to the hardness of Bonito, aside from that it functions perfectly and size is adequate for comfort and is easy to use

Worth Every Penny
If you like to collect function art from Japan that is flawlessly crafted with quality materials or if you just want something that works exceptional this tool is definitely worth the expense. The blade and blade material is well worth the investment of having a tool that will last a lifetime. I appreciate that I can sharpen the blade. For now it resides in its nice origami type box, however as seen in the photos it can definitely be out for display. We will get a lifetime of yummy homemade ramen and Japanese dishes using this shaver.
