Simple and saves a lot of hassle
I change my own golf grips and well as that of my wife and daughters. I used to wrap the shaft in a old towel and then put it into my vice hoping I catch, but not crush, the shaft of the club. Cumbersome to say the least. This thing solved that issue. Just put the shaft of the club in there and put it into the vice. It has a ridge near the top that gives you an idea on how deep to put it into the vice. Almost foolproof as long as you don't go crazy tightening the vice.Rubber quality seems decent. Should last for a long time. If you plan on changing grips more than say 3 or 4 times in your life this is then worth the investment.

Does what it says plus a regrip technique
I purchased this item to hold my golf clubs in a vise while installing new grips. The item performed well and held the clubs firm without damage. Hint. When I was installing the new grips I used a technique I saw on a U-Tube video. After cleaning the shaft, applying new tape, and lubricating the grip and shaft with mineral oil, I slid the first half inch of the new grip over the shaft. I next inserted a pointed tip of my air compressor hose into the small hole on the end of the grip. By releasing gentle "spurts" of air into the grips, they easily inflate and slip onto the shafts.

Value-priced but not practical for all applications
Great price, but the fact that the two sides are joined means they can only be used on a shaft the diameter of a golf club (or similar) unless the two sides are cut at the bottom but then they don't stay in place on the vise jaws (like with magnets). Still for the money, although not ideal for all of my applications, I may one day find a use for this tool.

Ok, unless you need to torque something.
Adequate for holding something still, but if you need to torque something on, such as a flash hider, this will not work. I used it to dimple a barrel for a gas block and it worked fine, but failed miserably when I was installing a flash hider.

Mine split apart lengthwise
A good idea that worked fine for the first 12 golf clubs that I re-gripped... but it split apart lengthwise on grip 13. Maybe I had it too tight in the vise but it wasn't so tight that I couldn't move the club. I don't plan to get another one. I think I'll try an old rubber computer mouse pad the next time I have to re-grip. Oh well. Good idea but not very durable.

Good
Just replaceing a broken one from different purchase. Good to clamp in vice for head changing and cleaning. Functional as it is intended to be.

Too Small for Gun Barrel
Some of the reviews said this works for on gun barrels, but it doesn't. I can see it working fine for golf club shafts. The opening measures about 3/8". However for gun barrels (most of mine are around 5/8") it stretches out too far and doesn't fit in the vise well. Avoid this product if you're gunsmithing.
