🔬 Seal your science, secure your status.
Heathrow Scientific Parafilm is a 4-inch wide, 125-foot roll of flexible, self-sealing film that stretches over 200% to tightly seal labware. It provides a moisture-proof, odorless, and colorless barrier that resists many polar substances for up to 48 hours, ensuring sample integrity and preventing contamination in professional research environments.

I'm a recovering biologist and the one thing I missed from the lab was this amazing product -- I always thought it would have been perfect for the kitchen -- and it is! It is great for covering containers without lids, creating a waterproof airtight seal (awesome!). Use it on the top of bottles of anything carbonated to keep the fizziness in (yay!) Use it on the side of non-watertight lids/caps to make them watertight (woohoo!). If you haven't used this stuff before, there will be a little bit of a learning curve to get the hang of judging how much you need to cut off, how to anchor one end, pulling it around the container and attaching the Parafilm to itself on the other side; but once you have that down, this is a great product and yes, it is expensive but it goes a loo-o-o-o-ong way.

Parafilm is synonymous with lab work, every lab I've been in has a roll of it somewhere (often coveted by that one researcher who's work is clearly more important than yours and believes you to be a lesser creature in the grand scheme of scientific discourse and therefore a resource like this is worth keeping away from you). This is that stuff, there are cheaper alternatives and buying them will likely create more problems than the money saved will solve. Buy this stuff, it does the thing lab workers expect it to. Non-sciencey people > Parafilm is like fancy cling film or cellophane, the big difference is the low chemical reactivity, the stretch and sealing properties mean you can cap a tube or flask with reasonable expectation of air/water tightness. And if you want, you can scrunch it up and block stuff with it. I use it sometimes to cover vinegar/oil flasks or to cap storage bottles I've lost the tops of in everyday life..... cause I sometimes do cool science stuff and fail at everyday life stuff (like remembering where caps are)
