Awesome Book
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso writes in a very clear, direct way, and this book is a great opener for anyone new to Buddhism (and more specifically, Kadampa Buddhism). I'm very new to it and love that it's so easy for me to delve into because of how well-written the book is. I highly reccommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Buddhism.

A book for everyone
This book is a great introduction to Buddhism that many people should read. It takes A LOT of the confusion and misconceptions out of Buddhism. Once you are introduced to what Buddhism really is you will be amazed and in love. And all will truly be " for the benefit of mankind".

Good primer for Tibetan Buddhism
Read very concisely and clearly, this is a good introduction to the basics of Mahayana Buddhism - and Buddhism in general. While lacking the congeniality of, say, Jack Kornfield, this intro thoroughly covers many aspects of the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, etc. Recommended for beginners serious about exploring the Buddhist path.

Lovely Book
This is book gives you a great introduction to Buddhism. I really appreciated that there are mantras/prayers listed in the back of the book. The prayers are discussed and explained within the book and then allow you to reference them and see the actual prayer. It was helpful!

Writing what you know about
While I do not doubt the sincerity of the author, his book is a rehashing of things he has learned but does not actually know to be true. All of the rules, ideas, practices, and rituals do not bring one any closer to the realization that we may call enlightenment. In fact, they keep one away from it, because these are all things of the mind, which is the ultimate source of ignorance. If this author actually had realized the Truth then his writings would not reflect ideas gleaned from sources outside of himself.Having said this, however, if you would like to learn about what Buddhists believe as part of a religious body, then this book may be of some help to you. If you want to find out what you are at the core, to alleviate suffering and find compassion, try reading the words of Ramana Maharshi, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Siddharameshwar, or Nisargadatta Maharaj, to name a few.

Best introduction on Buddhism ever, perhaps ?
This book would surprise everyone who's heard about Buddha and the origins of today's teachings on Buddhism or would like to know more about the life of Buddha and his teachings . Written with so much wisdom and knowledge by the author ( whom had studied since childhood in Tibet , now living in the west ) It's a wonderfully practical book , explaining in detail the basic teachings of Buddha up to the ultimate teachings on the true nature of the mind and reality , I have to read thisover and over again and memorise this !

Misleading title
The author gives his version of Buddhism, which is a very different, moralistic, fear-based interpretation... Reading this book did not give a good feeling..
