Invest The Time To Master Your Bacon Master!
I really do not understand the bad reviews. Yes, there was a bit of a learning curve. No, you don't just put the bacon on there and it makes it perfect with the push of a button, but my 10 year old boy mastered our bacon master and we love it. Whether it's crispy bacon, chewy bacon or in-between, you ABSOLUTLEY can get the result you want. Thicker cut bacon takes extra time (duh!). That is not what this is intended for. So what? I have the one with the top that lifts off. I have read people disappointed with theirs because the doors were broken. Solution? Buy the lift off top version. A little patience, a little bacon bonding time with my boy and breakfast means he cooks the bacon alongside the eggs/French toast I make at the same time in the pan. Harmony. We love our Bacon Master. (Just need to find a replacement tray because we cracked ours)

Does not cook bacon.... Does make a mess!
This is so cheap and flimsy. The metal sides will not even close properly. Since the heat is only on one side it will not cook bacon evenly. I had to remove the bacon and cook it elsewhere to get it done. The time shuts off long before its close to cooked. It never really got very hot. Also, bacon always has alot of fat, which curls when cooked. Once the bacon starts to cook, part of it curls and then will never get enough heat to cook it where you would want to eat it. Unless you like RAW bacon. Also, the unit is very very difficult to clean. Yes the drip tray pulls out, leaving the rest of the unit a mess.

Love it!!
I love my Bacon Master! It's easy to use and cooks the bacon without all of the splatter. I just put the slices of bacon on it and set the timer and walk away. The clean up is so easy now. I don't have to scrub a skillet, I just wait for the Bacon Master to cool and take a damp sponge (using the soft side) with a drop of dish soap and wipe it off then take clean water to rinse it off.

Wanting to love this more...
Updated... This product's rating, unfortunately, continues to decline... I was SOOOO excited when i saw this and couldn't wait to order it. Told everyone about the fancy bacon toaster i was getting! Unfortunately, so far, it's not quite as amazing as i had hoped... Bottom line: if you're already a good bacon cooker, you probably don't need this, unfortunately, i am NOT a good bacon cooker - i make a mess and either over- or under-cook my bacon. To me, cooking bacon is a pain. And this thing makes it slightly less painful and allows me to cook bacon a little bit more consistently, quickly, and with less cleanup. This thing is pretty simple, nothing fancy about it. There's a hot curved surface for you to drape your bacon over, two covers that kind of set in place to trap heat and the mess, and a simple wind-up timer you can use for your cooking time. Cleanup is not as easy as i'd like. Wiping the non-stick cooking surface down with a damp paper towel isn't too big a deal, but the little covers on either side are a little bit more of a pain. There's a little lever on one side of each cover's hinge that makes you think the cover should be removable, in which case it'd be super easy to take it off, wash under sink, and reattach, but i'll be darned if i can figure out how to get it off. I can't think of any other purpose for the lever, but the instructions don't address it, and i'm unwilling to apply enough pressure to force it for fear of breaking something. So cleaning it isn't as easy as i would like, but still, it's not a huge deal, it probably takes me two minutes to clean it. Update: i did figure out how to remove the covers, you have to remove the drip tray first, and this makes cleanup slightly easier. However, cleaning the nonstick surface is still a bit of a pain and requires quite a few paper towels. The next issue will probably work itself out in time, as i get more familiar with the cooking times and bacon quality (in addition to being bad bacon cook i'm also a bad bacon picker-outer), but this thing is so good at getting rid of the bacon grease that i'm not quite used to the taste of bacon without so much grease, consequently, and somewhat counter-intuitively, at least to me, i haven't gotten the bacon quite as crisp as i like it. I feel like in order to get the crispness i like i have to overcook it somewhat. We'll see how this works out in the future... Still not as impressed as i would like to be. Clean up is a hassle and requires just as many paper towels as microwaving it, which, if i had known, i would've just kept microwaving it. Seriously contemplating returning it.

More of a conversation piece than anything, but fun to use if you have patience.
Just like most of you other bacon lovers probably reacted when seeing this, I was giddy like a school girl. I've been looking for a used Westinghouse Baconer from the 70s, but they almost never pop up. Back to the review. I received this and it was like Christmas time. Upon opening and testing it out, the doors were very flimsy and one kept falling off because the door rivet wasn't pressed on properly in assembly. I powered through. It does take about three times as long to make the bacon as the instructions insinuate. I did have to flip my bacon about half way through each cycle to cook both sides or one side would stay almost raw. The final synopsis? I am returning my unit for a new on to see if the door will stay the next one. This is more of a novelty than functional item. It isn't perfect. It takes longer but overall, it is fun and it's a great conversation piece. If that isn't what you are looking for, don't buy this unless they make some improvements. Update: unit 2 works flawlessly and hasn't fallen apart!

Great idea, not so good product.
Let me begin by saying the Bacon Nation Bacon Master is a terrific idea. I kind of wish I'd thought of it. However, once it leaves the idea stage and goes to the builder it doesn't translate well into the actual item. Kotula's, the seller, packaged it well and it arrived safely. It was easy to set up and came with clear directions for use. After giving it an appropriate warm soapy water cleaning, I decided to take it for a test run (test cook?) and that's when the problems started. There are side panels that let down to allow strips of bacon to be draped over the nonstick cooking surface. A small wire a couple of inches long fell out on my counter. I never figured out what it was. I set the convenient cooking control for just this side of crisp and went about the kitchen doing some other things. There was a small clang, which turned out to be the left-sided panel falling off the unit. I managed to get it back in place and then right one fell off a few minutes later. That panel was moved back into place and I went back to other things. Twenty minutes later the bacon was hot but not cooked. I'll have to say the drip tray was conveniently placed and was easy to remove, drain, wash, and replace. After another few minutes I put the bacon on a microwave tray and was done in a short while. There was a cycle-done alarm on the unit, but it's a faint ding that's difficult to hear even up close. It was my first time returning anything to Amazon. They acted quickly and efficiently and contacted the Kotula company. In their turn, they wrote a very courteous and helpful letter and in a short time had refunded the cost of the unit to my Amazon card. Again, the Bacon Master is a great idea but just doesn't work well in the real world. Thanks to Amazon and the Kotula company for their fast work in getting this resolved.

Glad I finally got this!
I gave this product 5 stars all around! This is because this product was a great value I had my eye on it for a couple years but finally took the plunge when it was on sale. This is so easy to use my teens can make their own bacon quick and easy without splatter. I can easily pour & store the bacon grease for later use. At first I worried the bacon would not be crisp enough but turns out this machine set at the proper setting makes bacon perfectly to my family’s likeness!

Don’t waste your money!
I got this for my husband for Christmas, and we finally tried it today, much to our disappointment. While easy to use, it did not cook the bacon thoroughly, only the part that was on top actually cooked. And then to be honest, it was over cooked. The rest of the bacon, the part that draped over the sides, was raw. There was absolutely NO flavor in the cooked part of the bacon, I’m assuming since the grease drained downwards. Totally bummed with this product. It held such high hopes for us, as we do love our bacon!
