Good product =Good performance
More expensive? You bet ya. Better quality? You bet ya. I ride a trike with 1000 watt motor to exercise my milanios working dogs, 2 together hooked to trike for about 2 miles a day, Using metallic pads on rear wheels and these much more expensive on the front along with floating rotor because the front is where stopping happens on any vehicle bike or car with brakes.I go through a lot of pads to keep trike stopping the way its supposed to. Can get quite expensive is why I only use these on the front. These are the only pads I have used and believe me I have tried them all cheap and expensive that stop properly and DONT SQUEALE....can not take all that noise from brakes even the dogs get freaked out when they are squealing when you stop....# fingernails on a chalk board. Costly but you cant beat performance, if cheaper ones would work I would get them but they dont... highly recommend.

I’ll never look for pads again. Great job Avid Elixir
I ride an electric bike that tops out at 30 MPH and has a battery life of 28 miles, needles to say I ride the heck out of that thing. Finding brake pads that could hold up to the wear and tear of the use I was putting them through was proving to be impossible. I have a buddy who suggested Avid Elixir to me, so I gave them a shot and have been buying there pads once a month for the last 9 months. They are extremely easy to change out and hold up to the stopping power I need when slowing down.

Avid Elixir Disc Brake Organic Pads with Aluminum Back
I order two sets of these to replace the factory pads on my wife's mountain bike. She had complained of squealing brakes. This installed easily. During the installation I was careful to clean and wipe downthe rotors with alcohol. Also I was careful to break in the pads after installation.Guess what. There is still a brake squeal. It is somewhat less than before.I only gave this item only four stars because it did not fix the problem. This item probably deserves five stars.

In this case, OEM is definitely the best choice.
After wearing out my first set of brake pads in my SRAM XX and Avid Elixir CR calipers, I did some experimenting with other brands and I will save you the time, money, and trouble - stick with the Avid pads. They are long lasting, and as long as you break them in properly they won't make the loud noises that some other people complain about.FYI: I broke the new pads in by first cleaning the rotor and the new pad surfaces with denatured alcohol and a clean rag. After installing the pads I rode up and down my street, doing about 20 controlled stops from about 10mph, never locking the brakes up so much to skid. After that the brakes work as expected and are noise-free.

Don't last, but they work
I know organic pads don't last as long but these seem good only for 4-5 rides before needing replacement. Then again, that's the way Avid's brakes have gone lately: downhill, but not in a good way. The metallics squeal way too much so we have to run the softer compounds.

Replaced OE pads in Level TL
I bought two sets of these for my 2018 Special Ed Fatboy Carbon Comp with SRAM Level TL brakes. They worked great with no break-in issues. They are also extremely quiet after soaking the brakes in Lake Michigan or the Rouge River, unlike the OE pads that screamed like babies after getting the pads wet.The Level T pads on my 2020 Specialized Fuse Expert are horrible, no power with one finger. I might try swapping the OE pads for these to see what happens...

Squeak free
These are thick - I find that when I replace them, my brakes will slightly rub for about 1-2 rides (not enough to notice a difference when you are riding, only when you spin the wheel off the ground). I like the fact they are trying to maximize the thickness you get as these do wear down fast (much faster than the non-organic pads), but worth it as I never have squealing problems and they are always stopping fast with no vibration. They come with all the screws, springs, etc needing for a full pad replacement.
