Just as stellar as I remember!
Was so happy to see the release of this remastered version of Hot Pursuit and I bought it immediately when it was available. I'm pleased to say that it's lost none of its charm and still plays beautifully. The bump in resolution and visuals makes it feel more modern if not exactly 'Forza' levels of graphics so don't expect it to look as good as those. Despite this it's a very handsome game if not the best remastering of an older PS3/Xbox360 game, it's definitely a better remaster than the 'Burnout' one that was released a few years back.It plays brilliantly although the handling of some cars took some getting used to, especially when doing the rapid response missions where some of the cars handling felt a bit too loose and off to me.Speaking of the rapid response/time trial missions I was never a big fan and they were always the ones I enjoyed the least as they feel a bit boring compared to the other modes. All the other game modes play great whether you're the police or the racer and I forgot just how great they are to play especially for it being an over ten years old game which you can sometimes remember through rose tinted glasses then end up disappointed but it's a relief that this is not the case here.Online racing has been working great for me too and I have had no trouble finding matches although my skill level needs a serious boost as the players I've encountered so far are miles better than me literally and figuratively but I do love the challenge of playing against other human players. If you have a PS4 Pro or PS5 you can choose between graphics fidelity at 30fps or 60fps frame rate in the options menu, I've chosen the frame rate boost as it makes the driving and handling feel so much better and it still looks sharp and pretty too despite me thinking it was going to be a significant visual downgrade compared to the fidelity option.I managed to get this game for £22 quid on black friday which is what I think a remastered game like this should cost considering the not so significant boost in visuals and at the price I paid it's an absolute steal. If you enjoyed any of the NFS games from this era such as Rivals and Most Wanted you will definitely enjoy this and if you can get it for £20-£25 then you'll get your money's worth out of it for sure!

Good racer, but very bare-bones - 5/10
After playing the original Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit a few years back, when I saw the remaster, I thought it would be a good opportunity to relive one of my favourite games. It was exactly how I remembered it... pretty much because it is exactly the same game with some minor tweaks. Now don't get me wrong, I know this is a remaster and not a remake but there is so much more that Criterion and EA could have done to improve the controls and the rubber-band AI which makes for some unbalanced races. This is all still present in the "Remaster" which is a shame for something which had so much potential. The graphics have barely improved since the original. Yes, the resolution is better, providing crisper shadows and more aesthetically pleasing cars, but in terms of overall graphical improvements, it feels virtually untouched. Gameplay itself though feels consistently smooth throughout and has a Quality and Performance mode, with Performance favouring high frame-rate (50FPS+ on PS4 Pro, 60FPS on PS5) and Quality favouring... well, visual quality, but I feel performance is best for this game.Moving onto the game itself, as I said before, the controls are not brilliant but I found that once I got used to them I was finding myself having some highly enjoyable races and hitting some sweet drifts, but when you compare this to the newer NFS games, the controls really feel night and day. One thing I loved about this game (and NFS Rivals) is the split between racer and cop campaigns, providing two separate level up systems and two completely different experiences as a whole. The racer career races are always fun but suffer from the rubber-band AI that I mentioned, but they do still provide a sense of success when you overtake for a last minute first, or you hit the required time in a preview time trial by a fraction of a second. Personally, I find the police missions to be where the game really shines through. The "Burnout" style takedowns coupled with the fully licensed, fast, modified police cars really make for some amazing car-to-car combat moments. As well as this, the various gadgets available provide some outstanding cinematic moments within the missions. The multiplayer is not for me, the fully open tracks make it easy to get lost should you get wiped out by a foe and the lack of a variety of race types make it slightly boring in my opinion, however other people may find the modes provided quite entertaining. The cop vs racer element of the game is still present here though. The tracks that all these missions and races are played on feel nice at first, but slowly become more and more monotonous and bland as you play through them over and over again, as both racer and cop modes share the same tracks. The addition of the DLC makes this game a bit longer and adds in some extras that the original players may not have had but this doesn't save it from being as barebones as a remaster can get.Overall, I would recommend this game to anyone who has never played NFS Hot Pursuit before, as it does give a fair bit of entertainment before the repetitive tracks make you feel like your in Groundhog day. However, if you're a returning fan, unless you can get this around £10/$15, it's probably not worth it.Reviewed on PS5 with backwards compatibility

It's good like the PS3 version
Wanted it since re-release. As a fan of this game on PS3 and all other NFS games I thought hmmmm could bring back memories, and at the price I brought it for wow couldn't resist£7.99 what a steal. Brilliant game, graphics are slightly upscaled than before and the music, well brings back memories as well
