4. SET A PREFERRED TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT SITETo save a preferred temperature measurement site, so that the preferred site will be automatically selected when the thermometer is turned ON, follow these steps.a. Make sure the thermometer is turned OFF.b. Press and hold the blue SITE SELECTION button and, without releasing it, then press and hold the gray POWER button. Release both buttons when the site selection icon appears with 3 flashing dots.c. Press the SITE SELECTION button until the desired temperature measurement site is selected.d. Wait 4 seconds for the site indicator dot to stop flashing.e. Press the POWER button to turn the thermometer OFF.f. The preferred temperature measurement site will be automatically selected when the thermometer is turned ON.NOTE: With a preferred temperature measurement site selected, an alternate temperature measurement site can still be selected during each use by pressing the blue SITE SELECTION button when the site selection icon appears after the thermometer is turned ON.g. To remove the preferred temperature measurement site setting, open the battery door, remove the battery and reinsert it.IMPORTANT: To ensure accurate readings, you must always take a temperature reading at the site on the individual that corresponds to the site selected on the thermometer.

I tested this thermometer taking my temperature 3 times in a row. The readings were as much as 2 degrees different. I repeated this test several times and not once did the readings even come close to each other. The problem may come from the "rapid read" feature which gives results in just 2 seconds. I could barely get the thermometer in place before the signal went off.Also, this thermometer has settings for oral, rectal and underarm use. I only wanted oral and followed the manufacturer's instructions to set that as the permanent choice. This never worked. As a result, each time I tried to take my temp, I had to cycle through the 3 settings which was awkward and very difficult for someone who is sick, as I was.I have since replaced it with a simpler thermometer for oral use. It takes about 20 seconds to give a reading and is easy to use. It also passed my test of 3 tries.Don't waste your money.

I had an old thermometer from BD. I didn't have much hope for any modern electric thermometer. I tested this several times alongside a glass thermometer that I trust. Turns out this is working well. I have owned it for over a year at this point.

Read the instructions and it works perfect. Set default reading (F or C) and default reading location (mouth, underarm, butt). I use it every day after major heart surgery, so no fooling around. Well lit, nice big numbers, and very quick (like under 3 seconds).

Works well, however, when trying to select what area is being temp'd it can shut off quickly.

I ordered these for a pediatric office for taking rectal temps on infants - they work really well - very quick to read and easy to use. I do like that you can use it axillary as well. They work faster than the other Vicks model.

Thermometer arrived on time. Seems to work as advertised. But the battery that came with it was completely dead. Fortunately I happened to have one of the correct type (CR2032) but if you need to use this (or any electronic device) the day it arrives make sure you have spare batteries already.

This thermometer is useless. It does NOT function as the instructions say it will. It is NOT at all accurate. If you finally get it to work, (BIG IF), take three consecutive temperature readings of the same person and you will get three different results!Don't waste your money as I did. I bought two of them and neither works correctly but I am now outside the return window.Vicks is now a brand I will boycott. No mas!
