Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossary (Trophy Picture Books (Paperback))

This year we did a unit on land and water biomes. This book had wonderful illustrations, easy to understand examples, and correct definitions. It even provides real landmarks around the globe for further research.

We purchased this for our five year old son. We bought a few other geography items as well to supplement his education at home. This book is easy to understand and offers great illustrations to help explain the vocabulary word. You have words such as, Atoll, Ford, Palisade, River, Swamp, Tundra, and Waterfall. Each word has its own picture to make the explanations easy to digest. The text is short - about 2-3 sentences for each feature described. I would recommend this book as a nice geography picture book for children probably from about ages 4-8 (the book states from ages 7-10 but it seems geared towards younger children in my opinion). This is a great book for young kids who are interested in non-fiction, science or the outdoors. I would say that this is appropriate for grades 1st through 4th grade. The pictures are well done and the book includes a wide variety of geography terms, including archipelago, atoll, badland, butte, cape, continent, fjord, ford, geyser, glacier, gulch, highland, isthmus, key, marsh, mountain pass, ocean ridge, reef, sound, straight, swamp, tundra, and volcano. This is *not* an all-inclusive list.

This book has been helpful for homeschooling. The definitions are not crazy long so it's easy for my kids to write on index cards. There's several words on each page and it also offers pictures which is always helpful.

I have used this book in the classroom for many years. My first through third grade students use it a lot. They are able to independently look up land and water forms in order to identify the different ones for a project I have in my classroom.The book is missing a few definitions, but I have made my own and added them to the book.(ex. ria ). The other thing is the index is not complete, but I wrote in the correct pages and topics. It is missing a few of the definitions. It is a great introduction to using an index. While not perfect, it is a very useful and young students are able to use it independently...a huge benefit. I wish more books were that way. It is difficult to find a book at the right level with the information you want. As a culminating project the students make an "imaginary island". They use the book to create a "map" showing many different land and water forms. They get creative with the names...for example, Barbara's Bay or Awesome Archipelago.I would find it hard to teach this part of geography without it!! It is an excellent resource.

A must for the book shelf!! Easy to read and understand, the picture illustrations are a great plus!

Love the pictures that help cement in children’s minds what they are reading. A simply easy to read and understand geography terms.

My 7 year old came home from school with a note he had written. He wrote the title and author's name on paper. His teacher had this book and he wanted to make a book similar to it out of paper. Great way to read, learn and be creative. Pictures are bright and colorful in this book. He likes this very much. I had rented this book from our local library and pictures were dull. He immediately asked me to make sure i bought him a book with bright pics. This book will be used for a long time.

Ooh this is a fabulous book, excellent for introducing Geography to the 6 to 8 age group. Highly recommend!!

We are using this for our homeschool, but I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to learn geography terms. It is a fantastic overview of terms, in an engaging format (particularly good, since this topic has the potential to be very dull). Very well done.
