Use domestic materials and hardware were you can. Insulate your houseboat properly in colder climates - it will pay back in the long run. Different approaches to solving challenges are discussed along the way - with pro's and con's.This book is now my all time favourite. Yes, I have plenty of books with nice pictures of houseboats where not even length, breadth and displacement is revealed. This book "Designing and building a houseboat" has none of the staged pictures. But it describes in detail how YOU can become the builder and owner of your very own houseboat.The Tiny house movement has quite a few books on how to build your own. I'm so happy that the houseboat-interested people now has a real chance of getting their dream come true - with the steady help from this magnificent book.My experience (20+ years) is travelling (Norway and Europe), and for quite a few of these years - living aboard my 1963 47' wooden boat. At the most with wife, 2 children and a cat. Maybe the happiest years in my life.Go get the book! You won't regret it - if only just to see if your dream can come true.I myself hope to live in my new self-built houseboat in about 5 years from now.

As someone who's lived on one of the author's houseboats (and knows him personally), I can confirm that they really are incredible! Stefan really knows what he's doing and understands every single aspect in great detail (from electrics to structural engineering) - the man is an absolute genius and a great guy, too! This book is not for the feint-hearted,it's a serious, technical, step-by-step manual for people who really want to understand how to build (or perhaps already know how to build but want to deepen their knowledge) and even my friends who are building homes on land or trying to create more sustainable home features have learnt a LOT from it. He has considered every aspect of creature comfort, safety, technology and the most important thing to me; how to best create a strong, aesthetically beautiful, life-long home in which to live a life less ordinary. I really hope you enjoy it, too!

This book helps even the mose basic di yourself person attempting to builda Safe, Wonderful, Home on the Water. I am looking forward to building my own home on the water soon. God Willing that is. Lol Buy this book only if you want to learn and grow as you progress to houseboat ownership.

My wife and I just recently bought a houseboat because of the recommendations. And knowledge that I received from this book! Have reread many parts two or three times already. Some of the stuff doesn't correlate to the United States because we have different laws for towable boats. I look forward to building our houseboat through this book from all the stuff that I have learned.

Can't imagine a more detailed reference on the subject of building, buying, and owning a houseboat- and, there aren't many others available. It won't disappoint.

I have not read the entire book yet, but it’s very well written and looks already like it will answer all my questions, and a whole bunch more that I didn’t even know to ask.
