In the Steps of Jesus

I ordered this as a gift for a friend who drove me to the airport for my trip to Israel. He mentioned he would like to go and I thought this would be the perfect "thank you" for taking me to /from the airport. I perused the book upon receiving it and it looks great- especially since I returned from the country and am more familiar with the geography. It will give him a sense of the places he may visit and I loved the maps (during Jesus' time) and pictures. I may get a copy for myself!

I recently visited the Holy Land and visited many, if not all, of the sites in this book. I really wish I'd had this book prior to going on my trip. It would have really enriched my visit even more. The author is great in summarizing the relevant historical perspective of each site and also putting it into the context of today and what today's visitor will encounter!!

We went to Israel earlier this year and this book was ecommended to us. We are very pleased with the history if brings forth as well as the beautiful photography.

Marvelous photography and a thoughtful, illuminating text make Peter Walker's wonderful book an important addition to a Christian's home library. Non-Christians will learn a great deal, too. And if planning a trip to the Holy Land, I consider this book essential to read before setting off to your destination.

Walker is a gifted author, knowledgeable from first-hand tours of the Holy Land. As a textbook or resource for readers with similar experience, this book may be just what the buyer wants.For those of us without it, it is incomplete. Useful maps and timelines are scattered among the pages, but there is not one photo other than that on the cover. We can be sure Augsburg Books would not have expected to market this without a cover image to reach out to their intended audience, so why offer none within?I'll be reading this while searching online for images. It will do the job, and I'll surely learn as I go, but the absence of scenes from any of these Steps is a significant deficiency.

I am just concluding my third visit to Israel - the second leading a group - and this is the book I would recommend if the purpose is to Walk Where Jesus Walked and to connect the land to the Bible. It is an accessible book - well laid out with excellent pictures and charts - and yet there is depth of insight which comes from scholarly writing from a theologian who has to ability to communicate, capture interest and entertain. It is a good book to read before and/or after a tour of the Holy Land, and is also for those who are not able to make a visit. It also looks and feels good if you are thinking of a present.

a fantastic book - a good guide to the Holly Land - history and the Bible incorporated together with balanced author's views and great illustrations. You definitively need to read this book twice - before and after the trip - to fully appreciate it.

I started to read this book before a recent pilgramage to The Holy Land, and found it interesting. However once in Israel and visiting the sites covered in the book it was really helpful. The historical information and the information on the sites as they are today complement each other and bring the different places to life. I am also going to continue to refer to it now I am home to remember where I have been. I would recommend this book to anyone intending to visit Christendom's holiest places.

Excellent - well written, stunning photos, this book takes the reader through the life of Jesus and the lands where He lived and taught.
