Initially, the man of the house wasn't all-in on this purchase. That changed the minute he sat down with a cocktail on a beautifully shaded patio. The Purple Leaf Umbrella has solved our problem. Our patio faces North and gets the afternoon West sun that is low in the sky. Traditional patio umbrellas can be tilted only a small degree; the limited tilt meant we could only have shade when the sun was overhead. In the photos, you will see that the tilt of the Purple Leaf is what allows us to block the later-afternoon sun. The Purple Leaf Umbrella offers freedom from sunshine any hour of the day. It is extremely well-made, easy to operate, has a 360 turn area and nearly a vertical tilt. The umbrella is sturdy and attractive. It withstood even hefty winds. It is easy to set up in spring and take down in fall. One recommendation: If you're using sand in the base, you'll find that bags of sand are generally moist/wet inside. That makes it difficult to feed into the base. Take the time to distribute the bags of sand on a tarp on a sunny day, and let the sand dry out. Then it will be easy to funnel into the base. We have owned this 13' umbrella for over one year. We are very happy with it and everybody who sees our setup compliments us on how beautiful it is. It is a well designed outside umbrella and very well made. Materials used are first class and the unit is well put together. Everything fits. The shipment arrived very well packaged and easy to handle. The 13 foot double top round umbrella is a substantial piece of equipment and requires two adults, at minimum, to install it. To lift the top assembly into the stand requires a good amount of manpower. Since the umbrella swivels 360 degrees it covers the whole of our wooden deck from morning till evening by making adjustments every so often during the day. We use the steel plate base which easily attaches to the deck and is located by 16 lag screws. This installation looks clean and stands up to some good size wind gusts. I would draw the line at about 15, maybe 20 mph. Opening and closing of the big canopy and rotating the unit is intuitive and easy. The Purple Leaf customer service is super responsive and went out of their way being helpful. I had a question about the workings of a small item being part of the canopy assembly and within a few days a complete replacement arrived at my front door.

Cannot say enough good things about this umbrella. Bolted into concrete and we closed it for wind and rains. We had severe winds and it is still standing. I have been waiting for something that could withstand 70-80 mph winds. I will be opening it back up soon and will update if anything goes wrong. Color was as advertised. Very sturdy, attractive "market" vibe. I am wanting a second one to cover the other side of the patio and wishing I hadn't waited so long or wasted money on other things that simply weren't as sturdy

Originally This was to be delivered on Friday the 23rd. After sitting in the warehouse and not being shipped for a few days It was scheduled for after the memorial day weekend. Purple leaf contacted me and offered me a 10% discount and kept following up and somehow the umbrella was actually delivered Saturday afternoon so we at least got to use it for half of the memorial day weekend installing it on Sunday. Their customer service was very prompt and helpful. We love the umbrella as it appears well built, is very sturdy, easy to install and works great. It also swivels very easily. I would supply a picture but it is down today as we are expecting some wind and rain.

We’ve had this umbrella on our patio for 5 years and it has exceeded our expectations. It’s only slightly faded and is still in good working condition. We would continue using it, but we’re replacing it with the smaller 12’ diameter version in the same color. The 13’ model is such a beast that we didn’t trust a normal weighted base, so instead we stacked pavers on the base. It can be a little cumbersome to open and close, but that’s to be expected considering the size. It’s remarkably stable for something so large. The tilt and rotation functions are also well-designed and easy to use. We were careful to take it down whenever strong winds or storms were forecast, but it had no problem withstanding 20 mph wind gusts when we were unable to take it down in time.

We are pleased that the umbrella and base are working and are of good quality. One thing to know is our umbrella is a newer design with a rotary mechanism built into a crankcase (not a foot switch).
