This is book for children and adults.
As a teacher of elementary school students for 34 years I have loved this book. Now as a Great Grandparent I have this book with its beautiful cover on my bookcase facing into the room for all to enjoy. Illustrations delight! The story is captivating. If you want a book that teaches empathy and compassion for something as tiny as an ant, this is it! As a parent, teacher, family member you can use the lesson learned here to transfer to empathy and compassion to all creatures.

Excellent for teaching several skills!
I used this book to teach perspective to my second graders. Since the story is open-ended, I then had my students write an ending for the story. This book is wonderful and should be in every K-3 classroom!

Great introduction to opinion writing!
I was looking for an interesting short mentor text to introduce opinion writing as well as gain a topic student would be passionate about. This book gave me everything I needed!! Not only did the kids love it, it ended with a fabulous question posed to the audience. Within the books there are also a few supporting details for students to use to back up their opinions so this is great for an writing lesson! If you’re adventurous there much you can do for en ELA lesson as well!

Great for teaching compassion
We love to use books to help teach our 4 y/o different skills or lessons. After reading so many positive reviews about this book, we decided to purchase it. It quickly became one of my daughter’s favorites and the story really does seem to stick with her. When we go outside, she’s constantly pointing out ants and warning me not to step on them. And we also take the chance to talk about how that compassion applies to animals and people.

meine Kiga Kinder haben dieses Buch sehr gerne gehört und vorgelesen bekommen. Wir haben das Ende der Geschichte die Kinder erraten lassen und dann erst das Ende vorgelesen. Total interessant!

I’m a retired teacher and this book is a phenomenal book on bullying. Pictures are great and the story line is excellent. I love the ending that promotes a lot of discussion.

This is a lovely story. We bought it to help to teach our 3 year old daughter that every creature might have feelings and a family. It had the desired effect and inspires thought in a friendly way rather than making them question death! In hard cover and beautifully illustrated.

Love this story. I read it over and over again as the school year goes on and we have participated in more and more Nature Play... with the hope that the children will learn to take the perspective of others AND learn to love, respect and protect all living creatures on our planet!!
