Unusable after washing
Used for two days, they did reduce the pain but then disintegrated when washed. The padding came away from the sock. Now we have a pair of very expensive ski socks.

Disappointing: Looked like they'd be great, but didn't provide the expected protection
For reference my original review of these socks is below this update. This update is following 5 days skiing (should have been six, but day five the resort was pretty much shut down due to poor weather).Unfortunately by day 4 my shins were bleeding as usual - I have photos of the day by day progression, but I am unable to upload photos to Amazon reviews at the moment for some reason. As such, I was pretty disappinted in these.Yes, they are comfortable. Yes, they are warm. BUT the big selling point of these is that they have a lot of shin padding that is supposed to prevent the kind of blistering and bruising that I get every year. In that respect these provided no more protection than a standard pair of Smart Wool socks without the big foam pad.--- Original Review ---Not just padded - built in shin-pads!Every year I absolutely mash my shins. I ski pretty hard on the front of my boots and I don't so much blister as rub away the skin and hairs leaving a weeping hole in my leg.At the end of the first or second day removing my socks involves peeling the sock and congealed blood away, but after a couple of days I get used to it. I guessed that was just what I had to suffer in order to enjoy the mountains on skis (40+ years on planks and boards and counting).(And note that these are only relevant for plank users... boarders these days don't have shin pain and rubbing to worry about, but if you are a boarder ask an oldie about bording with hard boots!!)I've used Sidas 'Conformable' insoles in my boots for about 25 years (I have a dodgy high arch that means without the extra under arch support I end up crushing my foot when I crank the boots up tight!) but I've never really bothered with 'proper' ski socks since I was a kid.I did get a pair of 'SmartWool' socks a couple of years ago, and while they are great I still just wear a pair of Nike padded 'sports socks' on half the days I'm on the hill. The SmartWool socks were a stretch at about twenty quid a pair, so a 50% uplift on that was going to need some special justification...On unpacking it was pretty obvious that these do have something a bit special. When they say 'shin protection' in the description they are not kidding. These basically have a shin pad glued into a pouch on the front of the shin. And it is stiff and feels very well padded. My initial concern was that if the shin pad was too short it would simply move the rub point up or down my shin. However it looks like the pad is easily long enough, as is the sock itself extending almost to the knee. The bottom of the pad is also tapered such that you don't notice the bottom end of it, so hopefully no pressure point there either.Sock wise, these are nice and comfortable. They are a mix of synthetics and wool and while they have a small degree of compression they are not too tight (they quote 10-15mmHg compression which is enough for a snug fit without squeezing).Fit-wise I fall between two sizes (7.5UK, which is between M and L in these socks). If I pull them on hard then the heel sits a little high, but correcting the position does not result in a baggy lump underfoot, so I am hopeful.Your socks are the interface between you and your ski gear. So, despite what I said earlier about the fact that I always used basic, everyday sports socks, I absolutely recommend a good pair of ski socks. BAD socks can mean a bad boot fit, and a bad boot fit is the way to serious problems from blisters to more permanent damage. Now, full disclosure... so far I have only tried these at home.. I'm not heading to the mountains just yet, but I fully expect these to do their intended job well and will certainly report back here if they do not. Out of the box these feel like a GOOD pair of socks!

The shin pad is “stuck” onto the sock and has started to peal away!?
Not holding up to being washed - I’ve been skiing for 4 weeks with them and the shin pad is coming away…

Good socks
I love these socks, good colour and comfortable. Even after a long day of hiking my feet are warm and dry. The padding is in all the right places to protect my feet and the socks are not too thick. Would recommend!

Nifty shin guards give these ski socks a little extra support
It is true that, even if you have your own ski boots that have been fitted to your feet and legs, you can still get some shin pain: you spend most of your time skiing leaning forward that even the best padded ski boots will rub. These socks are a great idea for partway through a skiing holiday when your legs are still achy when you get up in the morning. They have a built-in shin pad which is thick without being obstructive. These socks would also be a great investment if you have been skiing a few times but have yet to take the plunge and buy your own boots. The sizing of the socks seems a little small to me, I am a UK 7 (EU 41) and found the large size was the better size for me. The socks fit comfortably without any stretch, you may find if you are a UK 9 that these are pulled a little tight over your feet. It all comes down to personal preference: I prefer a looser sock. The socks are well constructed aside from the panel, they seem well made and have a attractive design of navy blue and aquamarine. They are also - and this is essential - nicely warm. I wore them with my ski boots and they retained heat. The wool in the wool blend sock also helped from the socks retaining too much moisture, my feet were relatively sweat-free when I removed them after a day on the slopes, so they wick away moisture pretty well too!Overall these are good, well-make socks with the added bonus of additional shin protection, which would be useful if you are using hired ski boots or if you - like me - tend to suffer from sore shins partway through a skiing holiday.

Se me ha despegado la almohadilla en dos lavados.
Los calcetines son muy cómodos y cumplen su función de proteger la espinilla. Pero a los pocos lavados se me ha despegado la almohadilla con lo que pierden su función de proteger.

No comprar
