Excellent primer
I have admired Arabic calligraphy for years. I was told of this book as a starter toward appreciating and writing Arabic. The directions are concise, the lessons presented with pages that are lined in a way to teach proper spacing and height of the character. The student can progress rapidly or at a leisurely pace, depending on interest level and time available. Excellent in short sessions as it is easy to pick up where the book was interrupted. A useful skill is learned as appreciation for this calligraphy is reinforced. The humor in the opening pages of the book is a pleasant surprise not expected in a book with a dry subject matter.

Well thought out, succinct and concise
I have found this calligraphy book to be indeed user friendly, complete with a concise introduction, as well as a step-by-step guide for the more difficult letters, at the end. I am sure that by the end of the book you should be able to write basic no-nonsense calligraphy.

Good foundation of knowledge and top design
The author is Muhammad Taha Abdullah, a student of Dr. V. Abdur Rahim (it is not authored by Dr. Abdur Rahim himself). The design of the book is beautiful and the knowledge contained is important for everyone seeking to learn Arabic writing skills. I liked the corrections to common writing errors which the author presents in a clear way and suggests he has good knowledge of the subject at hand. The "Book description" page (see below) has the website addresses of both author (Br. Taha), and reviser (Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahim). The Shaykh's website has free Arabic language books and courses, and free lessons (Arabic-English)- all for non-native speakers of Arabic; and the author's website has articles on Arabic, teaching advice and discounts on Arabic materials. Hasten to visit and benefit.

Wish I could give it 10 stars
This book is excellent, I wish I could give it 10 stars.I had been teaching Arabic handwriting to children for about 8 yrs now and tried various books available in the market and this is truly the best of them, look no further. This is what I love from this book:- the book is build in such an unique way that it's not just you get handwriting practice, but it actually teaches you in very methodical way, progressing from simple letters to difficult, then towards connected letters, then writing words and finishing with practice in writing ayats and hadith, plus extra pages for dictation exercises.- there is a whole methodology placed in completing this book to ensure proper learning, you have to fill out first rows on each page for every letter, then return and fill out second, and then third. This will ensure cementing and revising handwriting skills.- what is really unique in this book is that each letter is not just followed with detailed instructions how to write it but also with samples of common mistakes which students may commit while trying to write it. To my embarassment, even though I was teaching handwriting myself for many yrs, I realised that there are few letters I don't write properly myself. So I ended printing a copy of this book for my personal practice.- Arabic font is very clear and simple.- copying, printing and inserting this book in ring binders was absolutely easy. It's designed with this in mind, A4, large clear fonts, proper margins for binding. Just in 30 min I was able to create 5 copies of this book and put them in binders, four for my kids and one for myself:)-absolute bonus (and this what makes this book truly unique) - that on the author's website taha-arabic.com exists actual manual how to use this book properly to extract the most benefits from it.Look at taha-arabic.com in the section children's Madina arabic for pdf "Teacher's module", there you will see an ample section covering in details how to use this book. The author himself has over 25 yrs experience of teaching Arabic in classroom settings, so it's definitely reflecting in this book, everything is to the point, clear, just exactly what you need to master perfect Arabic handwriting.I am really glad I found it.By the way, there exists whole separate Arabic course for children written by Dr Abdur Rahim (author of famous Madina Arabic course) and Muhammad Abdullah Taha (the author of this calligraphy book) and it's really breathtaking. This calligraphy book is actually a part of that whole Arabic children's set, intended for kids 7+, which together roughly covers the content of Medina Arabic book 1 for adults, but in very easy and relaxing fashion, preparing children to proceed with ease into adult series of famous Medina Arabic course. This set is also available in Amazon, 100% worth it's money if you are serious about teaching your children (or yourself) Arabic.
