By His Grace: A Devotee's Story

A testament of love
What called me to this book is the significance that Maharajji played in Ram Dass path. This book was recommended after I finished a book by Ram Dass, and I decided to give it a try.Its hard to be open minded enough after we have been conditioned so much in the west, so i found myself reading while subconsciously also seeking clues that discredit the whole book. Dada’s devotion and love for Maharajji was so moving. Now if you are westernized, you will probably think that Dada was disrespected and taken for granted while he served his guru without restraint. Heck you may even think the guru is just using him. Then there are countless people also feeling that devotion and love. Dada talks about all the miracles that Maharajji did.So while reading i was on the look for anything that proved Maharajji wasn’t the real deal. At the same time i was evaluating Maharajji changing traits, how he behaved in some contradictory ways at times.I basically was reading with the mind and based in preconceived notions. However slowly I started surrendering into this love that Baba experienced. Near the end of the book I couldn’t even look at the photos of Maharajji because i felt shame I thought wrong. I felt so moved at the end and I could feel the love behind this book not just from the devotees, but also from Maharajji. I don’t think i can understand these words with the mind but when i open to the love, it all makes sense without making sense

Beautiful
I am on my third reading. So moved by the intimacy, the honesty and humility of Dada Mukerjee. One really gets a sense of what it was like to be with Neem Karoli Baba over many years, how he taught through his actions, care and service and love, how he affected his closest devotees so deeply, so profoundly. Of any of the books I have read about NKB this one and Dada's second book The Near and the Dear are by far the most humble, sincere and so warm and heart penetrating. There is so much insight and wisdom in both books from Dada and other devotees close to NKB. What I also appreciate, being a Westerner so conditioned to thinking and analysis, scripture, sacred texts, acting from my head, is the beauty of opening the heart. NKB and Dada's intimate portrait of him have really served to break my heart open.

Words fall short but are still worth saying...
This is such a beautiful spiritual recalling of a saint and his beautiful leelas. It is such continual inspiration to read again and again.

Nice.
I learned about Baba Neem Karoli by reading the Krishna Das autobiography, CHANTS OF A LIFETIME. I have to be honest and say that the KD book did not particularly endear me to him, or at least, as he was in his 20s. (But then again, none of us were at our best.) Still, I got interested in Baba and wondered what his deal was. Why did he have that effect on those people? I turned to Dada Mukerjee's book because he was an economist, an academic, and might speak more dispassionately about Baba. I really enjoyed the book. It really started filling in the gaps for me. Blessings to you, Dada.
