initial review, will change based on this:I bought 2 of these. I thought the periodic table would lock in place, but it doesn't seem to when I pull it out, is there a trick???UPDATE: I had originally asked the question regarding the periodic table pull out feature locking into place. The answer that no, it did not lock into place. Therefore, I am keeping my original review as a 3 star review. This is a well made pen, but again it is just a regular pen. The wonderfully ingenious idea of inserting a handy dandy periodic table that pulls out of it for quick reference is incredible, really deserving of accolades. However, this all falls apart because of the mechanics here. When you try to pull out the periodic table to reference it is tightly wound and requires a bit of strength to pull out. This would be just fine if next you were able to have the function of locking it into place. But you don't. So instead you must hold the pen tightly with one hand and the end of the periodic table with the other which is not great and then hope that you remember the info so that once you let go and put it down, you are able to write it.This is such a draw back to this otherwise awesome pen!The opposite side of the periodic table also offers an additional feature than other similar pens offer. Many formulas are written in teh back for quick review, but again this fails due to the same issue mentioned above.I truly wish the makers could add a small latch or have the spring mechanism lock into place to remedy this. Thanks for reading, this was my honest opinion, I paid full price for two of these pens (one to give as a gift) and am not being compensated in any way for this write up or opinion. If this review helped you in any way, please consider giving me a "Yes" to the helpful question - I appreciate your feedback!

I bought this for my college Chemistry major son as a stocking stuffer because I was sure he'd think it was pretty cool. I was right and he takes it to class but doesn't really need to look at the table at this point but he does write notes with it. I thought it should have some way to lock the table open when referring to it and when you let it go, it zips back into the pen quite quickly. My son liked it so score one for Mom.

Not sure about how useful it will be in class
Really cute idea. Not made well. Ran out of ink fast. I think it was just cheaply made, and every time I try and open it, I fear the table will break off from the pen. Not sure about how useful it will be in class, but it's probably small enough for you to cheat off of...not really sure.

COOLEST PEN EVER
AWESOME! Impress your science teachers and have a helpful guide. So many equations and conversions on the back. You may need to put tape in the pull out paper so it won’t rip. Great gift too!

They all loved them.
Bought many of these to give to my science nerdy friends as a part of their college graduation gifts. They all loved them.

The table and the equations on the back are pretty handy in occasions
It hasn't broke though I have had it for about a month or so. The table and the equations on the back are pretty handy in occasions. The pen itself is great; the ink flows pretty smoothly. The only faulty factor is the body of the pen, which feels cheap and plastic, but what can you expect more from this kind of price.

Three Stars
This is a cool pen, but the pull out tore after about 3 uses.
