This puzzle by far has been the most technical, challenging, detailed, intricate and rewarding build that I have done so far out of about a dozen. Building this requires complete attention with no distractions as it is easy to go off track doing some of the repetitive sections like the grip. After one page off I had to take the grip totally apart and start over. My fault. Fold the book leaving only one page visible at a time to keep the process in order. Instructions were easy to understand. Wax, wax, wax. If in doubt, wax. To save your fingertips wax every toothpick and use a plastic headed jewelers hammer to gently tap the toothpicks home. I used a snipper to cut the toothpicks even. A small punch is handy if you need to pop out a toothpick that's no good. A crochet hook helps to catch and seat the bands. Wax all edges of the bullets. Loading 12 was too tight to launch but loading 10 launched them 15' down the hallway. All in all an excellent experience with very sturdy, thick wooden punchouts. Nothing fragile about this baby. I didn't break one piece! I wouldn't recommend for a child without supervision/help because too intricate. You will love this wooden rifle!

I am not very good with my hands, so I was apprehensive to start this project. I have only done one other wood construction set and it was A LOT smaller and less complex. If you can follow directions carefully, you can do this. I learned some hard lessons along the way that I wanted to pass on to help you be successful.1. The instruction have an exclamation point in a circle on critical steps. MAKE SURE that you understand the exact orientation of the piece/pieces during these steps. Getting it wrong may not be apparent till an hour or so later when you cannot complete a future step.2. Pick up some extra paraffin wax. I got mine from a craft supply store, it is cheap and you will need extra. The kit only comes with a nickel sized amount.3. Apply wax to ALL your toothpicks before you insert them. This makes it a lot easier.4. When inserting toothpicks, I would cut the tip off to create a larger surface area and press the wood piece onto the toothpick, using a hard surface like a table to apply force. Sometimes the toothpicks break when you do this, so be careful.5. For cutting the toothpicks I used a pair of sharp wire cutters. Then an exacto knife to smooth out the nub that is remaining.6. I wore cut resistant gloves during exacto blade use. (Not required, but if you don’t want to get cut I recommend it.This project took about 4 days (roughly 6 hours a day) to complete. Very fun, just buy it already, you will not regret it. Be prepared to work and have sore hands!

My ninth wood puzzle, second Wood Trick, first toothpick puzzle! I was a bit unsure when starting out with the toothpicks but eventually developed a routine to deal with their use and the occsional stabs and bleeding. Yup, my fingers hurt but the finished model is amazing. At one point I had to use a bandaid to stop bleeding all over the wood and quickly realized that it also provided protection against further stabs so I put some on my other fingers too. The fabric ones work great. As for the toothpicks, I used a small vise grip to insert them and a scrap piece of wood behind the piece to steady it while I pushed the toothpick in.I like the thickness of the plywood since it results in a sturdy substancial model. I quickly abandoned the hobby knife recomendation for trimming the toothpicks in favor of a cuticle cutter. Gets real close to the wood and results in a smooth surface. Down side is that you get the occasional flying cutoff so make sure you have safety eyeware if you go that route. I found the instructions very clear and the parts, mostly fit very well with very little sanding necessary. Expect to invest a lot of time in assembling this puzzle but the finished product is very nice and works exactly as it should. Only thing I would like is a larger piece of wax since I needed it for some of the toothpicks. Luckily I had some left over from other puzzles. I would highly recommend this. Good job Wood Trick.

This sent me to the ER. Do NOT cut the toothpicks with a razor blade!!! Use a saw or dremel tool, much easier and SAFER. Overall gun looks cool, but shoots more like spits every blue moon and if the wind is blowing the right way.4 stars

My 13 year old son used his allowance to purchase this kit to put together during our pandemic shut-in. He oscillated between excitement and extreme frustration. I joined him after he had put in a couple of hours and given up. I am so impressed with the engineering and construction of this kit. The pieces are all cut to the perfect size, the holes all match up. The tooth picks were challenging at times, but once we began waxing them prior to insertion, that task became more manageable. My son had no prior model making experience, and I can safely state that this was well beyond his ability to complete, if only because of its size. It took us several days, stretched over a couple of weeks to finish. I am so happy we had the opportunity to make this model together as it gave my son the chance to work through some difficult challenges, taught him problem solving skills, and it certainly improved his finger dexterity (beyond his normal video game work-out). In the end he was thrilled that the gun actually worked, though it didn't shoot as far as he had hoped. I was shocked to see the elements we assembled actually functioning, like the safety, and the telescoping stock. This model is so cool, its elements are fantastic, and the engineering is top notch. If you are purchasing for a child, you may need to step in and lend a hand, but I believe the lessons learned are well worth the effort.

Very good product and a lot hours of entertainment

Tedious at times, but still fun to build. I could understand the instructions pretty well but one must pay careful attention as small details can be very important.Sadly, the firing mechanism wouldn't activate. I attribute it to a part not waxed well enough. Too much friction.Now, it's simply a bit of eye candy. A memoir of a fun puzzle.
