It's well made, easy to use, and it works as well now as it did 3 years ago.
Bought this device three years ago. I've used it routinely and it still works perfectly. It has a timer, but all I do is fill it with tap water and hit the ON button. It stops automatically when it's done. I funnel my cooled newly distilled water into rigid plastic bottles and place them where I use them. After a period of time I'll notice a buildup of gunk inside the distilller. I just fill it with water, put 3T of distiller descaler into the water, turn it on, and when it is hot I turn it off and let it sit overnight. In the morning I brush the inside and dump the dirty water, then run some more water through the distiller and it's sparkling clean and ready to make more gallons of distilled water for me. It does use some electricity, but we have solar so we don’t notice it.

Died after 9mo
I loved this unit for the 1st nine months. All options functioned well and a huge bonus that the interior is stainless steel and easier to clean than plastic units. However the unit started to turn off after 10min (presumably due to overheating), then gradually got to a point of not running at all and I noticed the plug into the lower unit was melted. I replaced the cord hoping it was just a bad wire and again the same thing happen (ran for 10min, then shut off melting another cord). I contacted support but didn’t receive ANY response. I either got a bad unit or it’s poor quality, either way I expect appliances to last at least 1yr or a company to stand behind their product and replace it if broken. Now I’m left with a non-functioning unit and need to shell out another $200 and hope the next one will be better. Update: Like other reviewers who’ve had issues, it looks like I had the same problem of a blown fuse that overheats and melts the plug. You can see in the picture how the plastic is melted. Poor design.

Easily a 5 star product once you add a $10 timer
As the headline says, add a timer to power off the unit after 3 1/2 hours of use. Unit is designed to run dry, then run hot triggering an automatic shut off. That is a great safety feature but not ideal if you want to make cleaning easier and have the unit last longer. (less wear & tear). Easy to fill, easy to use, makes great water that is so much better than bottled or tap water. My well water is very, very hard and may even have biological contaminants but the distiller boils all that out. After the 3 1/2 hours my timer shuts the unit off with about 1/2 inch of water remaining at the bottom which looks like a chalky slurry - calcium carbonate no doubt. Cleaning is just a matter of dumping out the slurry, wiping it out and refill for another batch. Granted you don't get a full gallon this way with every batch but 7/8th of a gallon twice a day is more than enough. Taking others advice I have never let the unit run dry. Really like the Stainless Steel and Glass path to minimize any possible contaminants - great features. It is a bit noisy - like a small space heater, and it does generate some heat but I have it set up on the back porch - problem solved; also it would be tough to find enough counter space in my small kitchen. Well made and looks like with care the unit will last a long time. Already made about 40 gallons w/o problems. Unit arrived immaculately clean & well packed. I tossed out the first 3 batches to be extra sure the cooling coils were cleaned out completely. About the only Achilles heel I can see in the product is the custom glass funnel - take extra care not to drop it or the glass carafe. There is a tiny bit of assembly for the handle on the carafe - instructions included, once full the carafe is pretty heavy. Timer used is from Amazon: "BN-LINK 12 Hour Mechanical Accurate Countdown Timer with Grounded Pin - Energy Saving for Kitchen, Phone Charger, Lamps, Security 1875W, 1/2 HP, ETL Listed" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MVDTEXS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works as Advertised; Looks Nice
**UPDATE: After replacing the carbon filter that came with the distiller with some generic ones also purchased on Amazon the taste of the water has improved tremendously. The distiller works as advertised and will suit my needs but… PROS: -Works as advertised. I have hard water and when it’s finished distilling I can see the minerals left behind so it definitely works. -Looks nice; love the stainless steel and digital face. -Everything unplugs from the back to make it easier to fill with water. -The lid/fan has a handle although I’ve not needed to use it. -I appreciate the auto shut off. As long as it takes to distill a gallon of water I appreciate being able to go to bed and leave it to run knowing it will auto shut off when finished. -I like that it distills roughly a gallon of water at a time and is able to get most of the water distilled without wasting any of it. -While not whisper quiet, it isn’t as loud as I would have thought it would be. CONS: -Grossly overpriced but unfortunately there isn’t a nice looking distiller available to compete with. -If you have awful tasting tap water like I do and you’re hoping this will improve the taste, you will be very disappointed. Thankfully I didn’t get this device for that purpose. The interesting thing is that the filter on my refrigerator does make my tap water tasty but this distiller does not when distilling is supposed to be superior. This also has a carbon filter that didn’t improve the taste thereby not really serving a purpose that I can see. -Some assembly required. You have to affix the handle on the glass carafe yourself via metal rings that go around the body of it. It’s very flimsy feeling for how heavy this carafe gets when full. The screws are too long and the nut to tighten is small. If you’re a man with large hands or someone with arthritis this will be difficult for you. You cannot tighten with a socket because the screw is too long so you have to just do the best you can. This really should have been a wingnut and/or a shorter screw. -The spout for the glass carafe is too small for how big this is. You can hardly pour it without spilling. -Why does the glass carafe have a blue lid and not black or clear?? It doesn’t go with the stainless steel, black color scheme and actually looks out of place. The only thing blue is the color behind the digital face. FYI: -It will fit under a cabinet but the fan at the top blows out hot air and the body gets hot so I’m not sure you’d want to put it there. -The lid sucks in air to cool on the sides so be mindful if you have an environment with hair and/or dust in the air. -The spout detaches to put the carbon filter in it but it’s just loosely held in place. Make sure it’s as secure as it can be before distilling. I had mine pop off mid distill; thankfully I was nearby and heard it before water could really go everywhere. Overall I’m happy with the purchase.

Does not leave any white dust at all. Easy to use and clean. Fill the tank up to the line and plug in. Set the timer. I set it to 3 hours and 45 min.. There should still be a little bit of water in tank when done. It come with a cleaning solution. Directions are easy. I would recommend.

This poorly made distiller has stopped working, less than 3 months after purchase. Unfortunately, it is now exactly 28 days after the end of the Amazon return time limit, and so I am out nearly $180. The build is very cheap. The electronic timer skipped digits from the first day. The unit was difficult to use. The display no longer lights up, the unit will not turn on, there is no reset button. This is an expensive waste of money. The manual is full of typos, very poorly written. While this device was still working, it was noisy while running and the fan on top sounded like a hair dryer going for several hours each time used. Now I have expensive scrap. Buyer beware.

Using distilled water in the humidifier machines is the right choice. And, with the full tank of water at the 3 1/2 hours setting is perfect. When the machine stops, there will be some left over water in the tank which made the cleaning so easy, no need to use vinegar very often.

Not sure about the product the plug came like this so not sure what it is, not sure if I should return???

Would have been less expensive to buy bottled water for how long it lasted. No response from seller to offer a replacement or refund. At $209 it distilled about 48L before dying. Started making crakling sounds then just shut off. Extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service and quality of the machine.
