Merriam Webster 5th Edition Scrabble Dictionary

This book is so helpful when playing Scrabble! Mainly because Scrabble-approved words and spellings can be absolutely ridiculous! But if you're obsessed about winning the game and maximizing your points, this book is great--especially for looking up the crazy meanings when you Scrabble app plays a doozie (like "cwms.") And believe me, that happens often. Whenever I have the "teacher" mode on, and the teacher says, "You could have scored a few more points," and then shows me the word I supposedly missed, I always yell, "I could NOT have scored a few more points! Who knew that was a word?" Seriously!When playing with my daughter over the past years (she is now 14), I encouraged her to use this book to look up word possibilities. It is amazing how many strange words you can come up with that you've never heard of, but check for them and find them in here.So--not good if you want to use this for writing a term paper--but terrific as a helper for winning an "official" Scrabble game, especially on your Kindle, iPod, or FB.

Decent price and it's usable for the scrabble game and as a dictionary.

This book works well for the first letter of a word. I would like to see in the future a book that gives you several words with your main letter throughout the word. Like if you have several A's and want to know how you can use say, 3 of those A's..Or a Q in the middle of a word.., etc.As far as the seller goes the I still have another book that came before this one that I didn't order so someone is waiting for their product.

Great dictionary and nice to have on-hand, but Words With Friends should acknowledge it being "The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary" or not. My latest word found in the dictionary but not accepted by WWF - vetter. I've found several like this as well as acceptable words by WWF that are not in the dictionary. Frustrating, but does not lessen the dictionary's value to own and use. It only should encourage WWF to work with Merriam-Webster and bring the two into agreement. At least make the attempt. I love playing WWF and like having the "Official Scrabble Dictionary" on-hand for verification. Just wish they could be more in sync.

I enjoy a good game of Scrabble, but I am competitive. So in order to keep up, this dictionary really helps play fair and make words that are helpful in getting a high score. It also helps me double check to make sure the word im using is legal to use in the game.

Why is this so out of date? It's better than a previous edition, but is still missing many words. Can't they simply compare it with other dictionaries' lists?? RECOMMEND you use this along with a good, regular dictionary too. And, I wouldn't swear to it, but I think their word-building Scrabble books may have some words in them that this does not. C'mon, Merriam-Webster! C'mon Scrabble company! Make this complete.

The dictionary is put together well and easy to read. I was worried ordering this when I saw pictures of the pages being crooked and words covered by the fold of the book. No problems with the way mine was put together.

Like I said, I love this book BUT it is several years old and many new words have come into our vocabulary which are not in the book. Several of my friends and I play only words in this book so we know we are missing out on some new ones. This is the 3rd copy I have purchased (one for me and two for friends) and they really get the usage.
