Desire: New Erotic Photography Hardcover – June 3, 2015

The title is much more interesting than the contents. The photographs are often lit with direct flash, which is not exactly sensual. May be useful to induce sleep if you are suffering from insomnia. Of course, now I am going to relist it after it spent two years on my bookshelf...

Mixed bag and mostly little more than snapshots. There are much better books available.I did what I almost never do: returned it for a refund.

This is a smallish book but the pictures fill the page (16cm by 21cm) so it seems bigger. The selection is another matter: I know that desire means different things to different people but the selection here seems random and to have little connection to the word or the emotion. The front cover suggests sexual desire though this is not supported by most of the images that follow.Perhaps the idea is to guess what the desire is in each photo or why the editor chose them? It looks as if the editor just rounded up all the photos he had lying around and didn't know what to do with, put them in a book and called it 'Desire'. Other than the names of the photographers, there is no explanation of why the photos were chosen or any writing included in the book at all. I doubt if the photographers were asked to provide photos specifically on the subject of desire but I'd be interested in their comments on their inclusions here either way.There are 210 pages of photos and only a few spread over two pages - so there are plenty of pictures. However, the style and quality of the photos also varies widely. I've rated the book with 2 stars because some of them are effective photos, but that's still less than average and I suggest you can do better elsewhere.

steidl社出版の合作的写真集“desire"＝欲望、願望、欲求をテーマに８０人弱の写真家が参加有名ドコロではNan Goldinやrankinがいるサイズはやや小さめで単行本より一回り大きい程度印刷は良いとは言えないが、許容範囲カラー写真がほとんど被写体は、人物が７割でその他は人形や風景、小物など人物は一部分（尻、ムネ、手など）がクローズアップされた写真も多いいわゆるフェティシズム的表現かこの事もあってアーティスティックな写真集となっているボリュームはそれなりにあるため（２００P超）おっ、これは！と思うモノも含まれてはいるが、合作の性質上、一貫性に欠けると言わざるを得ない少なくともワタシのdesireは反応しなかった
