A Progress in Positive Expectations
I've not a vegan; but, I am most interested in eating healthy products. I watched a Dr. Oz program where cashew nut butter was combined with nutritional yeast flakes to make a yummy (per Dr. oz who tried the concoction) cheese ball. Curious, I went exploring to find out about Nutritional Yeast Flakes and Nutritional Yeast powder. I purchased Kal Nutritional Yeast Flakes as well as the same from a local bulk container as well as Nutritional Yeast Powder. Now, there they sat, waiting until I could learn how to cook with this stuff.I searched on line and tried a couple of recipes -- absolute disasters! I searched again at Amazon.com and found the Joanne Stephaniak Nutritional Yeast Cookbook which denoted recipes using Red Star Vegetarian Formula Flakes. This book was published in 1954, and I fortunately found a well-thumbed copy by a previous owner with many pages folded down and some pages with hand-written comments. But, those thumbed-down pages and hand-written notes helped me better understand this fabulous book because I was seeing this book through the eyes of another cook.Granted, this book does not recognize that nutrition is lost when vegetables are boiled, and as we now know, is much better if vegetables are eaten raw or pulverized using a Vita-Mix and mixing with other greens, vegetables, and raw fruits, but, knowledge improves, so I won't make that mistake. Now, armed with this great knowledge, I will commence making some of these recipes using the flakes I got from Kal, as well as what I purchased from local stores. I will again report my progress and results, as I learn then. All that said, I've started sprinkling Kal Nutritional Yeast Flakes on my finicky Feral Siamese cat's food. She's lapping them right up, approaching her dish with more vigor than she did before I started adding these flakes to her daily dry food. She also continues to prefer her food if she can eat the dry food out of my hand. Wow, does that ever become tiresome! So give me a while to explore working with this product, and I promise I will write and report my results.

Such a great alternative for so many things!
This has been by far the best value by far! Our family uses it for digestinal health every day. Nutritional yeast flakes are a useful and versatile ingredient – and we think it has a place in everyone’s kitchen cupboard and we’re so happy that we are able to buy it this way.

It sounded way too healthy and just did not sound good to me
When I first started vegan/vegetarian cooking and saw that a few recipes called for "yeast flakes", I thought no way will I ever resort to THAT kind of thing. It sounded way too healthy and just did not sound good to me, in any way. But somewhere along the line I ended up with a package of this stuff because my daughter wanted vegan mac & cheese and not the nasty frozen kind. The things we do for our kids. . . It turns out the recipe, which I found online somewhere, was actually good. Really good. So good I make it at least twice a month and it’s fooled their friends who think it’s real mac & cheese. Once I used this stuff, I realized it added lots of cheesy flavor and now I always have a container of it in the cabinet. I use it all the time ground up with cashews and a clove of garlic to make a faux parmesan cheese, sprinkled over kale when dehydrating it, in a recipe called Kalefredo (I know, I’ve gone off the deep end with this) and in the mac & cheese (of course) and no longer think it’s gross. I wouldn’t exactly eat it by the spoonful but I can’t deny that I will never be without it now that I’ve realized that healthy cooking can be better than the original version. This is a good sized container that lasts me a few months and stays fresh until I use it up.

The Thinking Man's guide to nutritional yeast
I got this for one reason only: it is an ingredient in an interesting crispy roast potato recipe I watched and wanted to try. BUT, we (wife of 49.8 years) washed up on the beach over 50 years ago that had us farming in our backyards, keeping mounds of seething garbage in the backyard, and driving hundreds of miles over fascinating, but sometimes challenging National Highways, to buy THIS VERY STUFF. And it tastes exactly the same! Love between meself and the girl that I married, rekindled with a smokey gaze over spoonfuls of Stonyfield Farms yoghurt, Pennsylvania maple syrup, and nutritional yeast. Whew! I know I'm getting close to the edge of what's acceptable in the public forum, but I must say that this culinary experience suggests, possibly, a fulfilling event of closeness that might have been piqued by this delicious, pungent nutritional yeast. Delicious and nutritious! A very detailed review.
First of all, this is a HUGE package of Nutritional Yeast Flakes.Reasons I am happy that I bought this brand if Nutritional Yeast:1. Taste...It is the best tasting Nutritional Yeast that I ever used! In my opinion, the flakes taste similar to cheese, maybe even a buttery taste.2. NUTRITION: It has 9 grams Protien (18 percent daily value), B vitamins, including B12...More than 100 percent daily. High values of other vitamins and minerals. Twenty percent of daily fiber value. No fat, no Cholesterol.3 Cooking...When I cook with these flakes, my foods have more color and taste delicious. Why did I purchase this? I am a Semi Vegan (I eat egg whites, no meat and lots of plant based foods) and need Vitamin B's, especially Vitamin B12. Also I like the 18 percent daily value of protein. I also eat lots of beans, However, I add at the serving of 3 tablespoons to my beans so I get the added protein.I also add 1.5 to 2 tablespoon to 4 egg white that I scramble.I recommend this to you whether you are a Vegan it not. If you want added nutrition, then this is a delicious and low cost way to get better nutrition.

My favorite
I’ve tried a few brands of nutritional yeast, and this one tastes the best to me. No salt content, but still with a mild saltiness that the other brands haven’t had. And of course a great vitamin profile! Really helps me get my vitamins from a food source. Awesome on salads and popcorn!!
