Voice and Speaking Skills For Dummies Paperback – July 30, 2012

Any reading is good reading. Lots of good information.

I would have loved this if it had used American quotations and pronunciations, and if the CD were spoken in American English. Unfortunately, it is terribly British, can get annoying, and loses some of its value.

This book is completely misrepresented in the description on the Amazon page. It claims to "Include a CD with vocal exercises to help you communicate with confidence." It does not. I purchased the actual book not the e-file version, so it should have been supplied with a CD like it claimed. It should have never been sold for the unreasonable sum of $25.00 if it's missing the included media. Buyer beware!

It is a technical help.Better quality

The product description states that "CD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of the e-book file, but are available for download after purchase", which is obviously a lie. Will try to request a refund.

I was excited by the title and description and the book didn't disappoint. It's such a comprehensive yet accessible guide to using the voice (more) effectively, that practically anyone can benefit from studying this. Personally I have a decent amount of experience using my voice professionally and I bought this book more as a source of teaching tips for my job (teachers will find this book useful). However, I discovered some things about myself that I would never have otherwise considered, concerning self-perception and emotional inhibition. I'd never before considered myself inhibited but Judy Apps talks a lot of sense, while coming across as warm and supportive and not austere or superior in the slightest. It's no exaggeration to say that this book can not only offer the tools to improve your voice but also an extra degree of self-knowledge and inner fulfillment.

I am only part way through the book, but so far it gives practical advice on how to better improve ones speaking skills.
