THE REAL DEAL!!! DON'T BUY ANY OTHER!
THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! THE SELLER REPORTED COMPATIBLE BMW'S FOR THIS - AND - I FOUND THAT THE EMBLEM CAN BE USED FOR THE HOOD - AND - TRUNK, AT LEAST FOR A 1992 BMW 525i. THE EMBLEM IS CLEARLY NOT SIMPLY A DECAL ON A PIECE OF METAL. RIGHT OUT OF THE PACKAGE I KNEW IT WAS THE ONE - IT HAS TEXTURE OVER THE ENTIRE EMBLEM, AND YOU CAN TELL THAT IT IS ACTUAL PAINT THAT GIVES IT THE GENUINE COLORS. I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH, NAMELY I READ NUMEROUS REVIEWS ON THE DIFFERENT EMBLEMS TO GET AN IDEA IF IT WAS A KNOCK-OFF OR SOMETHING TO LOOK INTO. THIS WAS THE ONLY EMBLEM PRODUCT THAT HAD A MAJORITY OF GOOD REVIEWS. I ALSO NOTED THE PRICE WAS A RESPECTABLE AMOUNT MORE THAT MOST OF THE OTHERS' (THE DECAL KNOCK-OFFS); HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY FOUND THE PRICE TO BE MUCH LESS THAN I ANTICIPATED! I BOUGHT THE EMBLEM FOR THE HOOD LAST YEAR, AND IT STILL LOOKS GREAT WITH NO SIGNS OF DEGRADATION.FOR THIS PARTICULAR REVIEW, I BOUGHT THE SAME EMBLEM, BUT FOR THE TRUNK - IT WENT ON EASILY AND LOOKS GREAT!PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU SEARCH FOR THIS PRODUCT, YOU WILL NOT FIND IT UNDER "TRUNK", RATHER, SEARCH FOR "HOOD" FOR BOTH HOOD - AND - TRUNK.

Genuine Article though not like original
As far as I can tell, despite what another reviewer has said, this is a genuine BWM Roundel Emblem. There is a difference between it and the original one that came with my car in that the original was smooth and this one is embossed. However, my mechanic says that all of the replacement roundel emblems he gets from the dealer are like this one. The older version is smooth because the roundel pattern is painted on (or is perhaps a decal). The pattern tended to fade with time, which is why I had to replace it. This new one appears to be embossed plastic, which would seem to be an improvement. In any case, there is no other difference in the quality of construction that I can discern.

Yes, it is authentic
When I was pondering buying this, I saw a few reviews that question whether this is an authentic BMW part. Let me first say I have owned my E36 for 12 years and have gone through several of these. I have bought from the dealer, and well known parts dealers like BavAuto and Pelican. This is the exact same as the one I removed, except that it has raised letters. I have seen them come either way, and I personally like the raised letter version. It is in a plastic parts bag, stapled like any other, with the part number and description in German. It is stamped on the underside with the BMW part, the BMW logo that is on every part. There is no question or uncertainty that this is a genuine BMW part.

Good alternative to dealership replacement - see photos
Looks pretty great compared to the old, road ravaged emblem I'm replacing. These may not be OEM - it's so hard to tell these days but the picture speaks for itself. Perfect fit for a 2000 M Roadster. Would have been 5 stars but seller didn't include the grommets as advertised - luckily I was able to reuse my old ones. This is a "don't care" for me, but worth noting: this replacement emblem versus my original are slightly different. If you rub your fingertip across the lettering you can feel it is raised, not smooth like the old one. Also the entire emblem doesn't sit as perfectly flush against the car as the original. No-one will ever be able to see it but me, but there is a slight gap beneath it above the hood surface.

Great Purchase
The emblem I needed to replace was like a BMW sticker on the roundel. The new one did not fit my Z4, but after contacting the seller, he immediately sent me the correct roundel. After a call back to him for installation help, he got with a mechanic to give me advise. Everything online were instructions for different models. None of which applied to my car, 2007 Z4. Even the removal was a different procedure. After all his help, I was able to replace the new roundel and it was even better than what was on the car.

Yep, this is a hood emblem
I can't comment on the people who claim to have received knock-off emblems or emblems that don't fit properly, but what I received appears to be genuine. It came in a bag with the BMW logo and proper part number, and the emblem is identical in appearance, fit, and finish to the ones already on my E46 330ci. The new grommets went in without a problem and the new emblem seems to fit in just as snugly as the old, cracked one that I removed.

Yellow in less than 8 months on garage kept car.
Bought this item in February 2014 for 2001 BMW Z3 Coupe. The original one was damaged by road debris. 8 months later the white portions of this badge are yellow as can be. The car is white and the yellow emblem looks horrible. My car is garage kept and has under 100k miles on it. All the other emblems still look great. No way this piece of junk is a factory piece ... period!
