Time to Get Started: A Story About Learning to Take Initiative (Executive Function)

My son who has Autism has fallen in love with these books! I look into the sample book first & read into what the book is about, what it is trying to teach & how before very carefully selecting the topics/books that I feel are going to help my son (because every child is different & every child who has Autism is different as well as their independent goals). In my son's case, one of his difficulties is Initiating Task & this book does a great job at explaining this specific topic of Time To Get Started & what is stopping you??? The book gives different examples & situations where one may be having a hard time getting started & provides the main character with choices & examples as to why this might be happening. My son clearly & perfectly identifies with the main character in the story & that is wonderful because my son is able to see himself out of his own body doing or not doing certain things, reacting in certain ways, etc. We have a total of six Bryan Smith books! My son reads them almost every day & they have become a very important part of his sensory area!!! :)

I love these books, my son asked me why the author didn't have to ask permission to write about him, lol!!!!!
