ProMag Picatinny Tactical Scope Rail for Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30, Black

I like this a great deal more than the last one I purchased. It is a bit long, but that is as advertised. Fits up nicely and is solid. I just cut off the section I didn't want.

The Rail is a nice piece of material that is solid and fits perfectly on the mini-14 nount points (my serial starts with 197). Also, the picatinny portion of it mounted every scope I own without a problem.Despite the overall quality of the rail, it takes about 20 minutes of diddling to line up the four washers' grooved sides with the mount point grooves of the mini-14 before it is solidly locked on. Perhaps an irregular pattern other than a circle or the washers being keyed so they can't turn would have been helpful. If I had one complaint about the mini-14 is that it ejects the casings at about 75 degrees and very high - nothing like sending up twinkling flares for all animals to see you. Well, this rail barely allows the cartridge case to be ejected and to a more reasonable 45 degree angle. I don't know if that is a positive or negative yet. I am sure it was tested so as not interfere or jam the weapon but I haven't been to the range yet to prove it to myself.

Poorly made: rail grooves were cut slightly out of spec requiring grinding enough material to allow proper seating of a Vortex scope. These modifications summarily ruined the finish and appearance and wasted time and money.

Although this is advertised to fit a mini 14 (and it does) it is built rather backwards. It is advertised as a Scope rail, I don't know what scope they tried on it but the eye relief is so far off you would have to put the butt under your armpit to get close enough to see through it. I would have returned it, but I have pets and the cats thought the package was a great toy and it ended up on the floor, had tooth marks and dog hair in the package. I think it is more designed for optics made for an AR than a scope designed to be used on a Mini 14. I ended up just spending the money to go through Ruger and get the right stuff. I wouldn't wast money on this if you intend to mount a real scope.

This rail, the ProMag Picatinny Tactical Scope Rail for Ruger Mini-14 and Mini-30, Black, is great for adding a 'universal' mount to the Ruger Mini-14. Those of you who own a Ruger rifle are aware of the proprietary scope mounts used by Ruger. Mounting any scope on a Ruger requires Ruger rings. This piece of ProMag hardware negates the problem of purchasing the expensive, hard to find Ruger rings (I have three set of Ruger stainless rings: low, medium, and high mount - ALL had to be ordered on the web - NONE were available at any of the gun and sports stores in Oklahoma City!).The added bonus I receive is the ability of using my Nikon 50mm BDC on my Mini-14. The Nikon scope clears the top of the Mini-14, with plenty of room for downward adjustment - something the Ruger High Mount rings did not allow, rendering the scope useless. Using Weaver quick release rings (Grand Slam Lever Lok Top Mount Rings 1 Inch Medium Matte) allow me to easily switch between using a scope (e.g. Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x50mm Rifle Scope, Matte BDC Reticle 6482) for 100+ yard shots and a red-dot (e.g. Bushnell Trophy 1x28 Red/Green Dot Rifle Scope 4 Interchangeable Reticle) for close up shots.Also PLEASE NOTE: There are NO problems mounting this rail - The mounting points on the ProMag perfectly match the mounting points on the Ruger Mini-14. If you can mount Ruger Rings, you can mount this rail.
