I just got it today and it works flawlessly. The instructions are very easy to understand. The only thing we have to get is a good bike lock as my son will not be screwing it down (his college will bill for holes). The holes on the side are pretty big and will accept a pretty thick lock and he can still charge it while in the safe as the cables will also fit through at the same time. I also like that there is a way to open it with your 4 digit code that doesn't display the numbers-prying eyes be damned. It's big enough to hold his laptop, ipad, phone, jewelry, wallet, etc. No one wants to need this but we all know its not a perfect world. Besides a roommate that you don't know you also don't know the friends the roommate might be bringing in, when you will forget to lock your door when you go to the bathroom and at his school everyone leaves the door open the first couple of weeks to invite drop ins and make friends. And as security put it its not the cost of the laptop (although the macs are expensive in their own right) but it all the notes and projects, etc in the laptop that might be lost. How do you get back the hours of work that hopefully will be in there?

This is a fabulous product! It recently went off to college with my son and enables him to have some extra security. It fits perfectly in his closet and is the perfect size -- not too big and not too small; the size enables him to put his laptop inside, along with other valuables. It is well-made and easy to operate (even though it is extremely secure). We looked at a lot of safes, but this one met our needs best.

So, I upgraded the cable used to secure the safe to desk or bed. Would totally fit a 17' laptop. Plenty of room for additional items. Cellphone wallet, watch, keys, etc.. I added battery operated motion sensor LED strips so it lights up when opened. Just an FYI, combo MUST be six digits. Programming works eventhough the response beeps don't work as explained in instructions.

The safe may be “rated best” but the chrome looking plastic easy breakable keypad is a joke. I put new batteries in it to just look inside (since it’s the only way in) and it did not even work. To me an overpriced cheap feeling product with no backup way into the safe I would say this would be a bad purchase for a college student.

We searched several stores as well as online and this was by far the best safe we found. It is sturdy, has plenty of space for a laptop, as well as shelves inside to put jewelry or other valuables. We liked that it could be opened with a keypad or the swipe of a driver's license. It came with a cable to secure it to a sink or bed frame for added security. It doesn't take up too much space in her tiny dorm room and gives her peace of mind to know her things are secure. The customer service was excellent. The staff (Phil and Phil) were friendly and helpful when we needed to order a replacement battery cover due to a mishap during move-in. They found one and shipped it right away. We recommend this safe.

This was a gift for my boyfriend for his college dorm room. With him being a very private person, I decided to give him this for his birthday. He loved it! It's very hefty, FedEx said it was about 40 pounds when it was delivered. I opened it up beforehand to check everything and put batteries in the safe. It is just as described, with really nice sturdy shelves inside. The walls of the safe are thin, but its doubtful that anyone in a college dorm room will have any of the necessary tools to break through the walls. The instructions that came with the safe were good, but provided no troubleshooting help. We had trouble getting my boyfriends personal PIN code to accept, and the instructions didn't provide any troubleshooting help to that affect. It was a weekend, so the customer service was not available which is okay. I was going to call Monday. We figured it out, he programmed his credit card and then the PIN code would go through. All of his charge cords fit through the bottom holes perfectly, and he's storing candy in it right now until he takes it to college. I was very pleased with the safe, and my boyfriend was too. My parents even expressed a desire to get one simply because it is so handy and appears so sturdy and well designed. I'll update this eventually when my boyfriend gets to college and uses it for its intended purpose, rather than storing candy.
