The perfect book for somebody who needs to see that you can run as you age, in order to believe it
I bought this book for a stubborn senior citizen in my life who wouldn’t listen to just data on things like bone density loss and declining muscle mass in relation to aging. We both agreed that It’s not impossible to stay active as you age, but this book provided him with the tools and mindset to shift his training methods. Instead of running his body into the ground (literally) he’s now enjoying other forms of cardio and noticing the benefits from these changes in his runs. This book is perfect for somebody who doesn’t want to hear about the science of aging from someone who hasn’t aged to that point yet. Jeff is the perfect messenger to deliver the message that you can remain active as you age

Great Advice for Older Runners
Bottom Line: Jeff Galloway's tips, advice, and techniques are both outstanding and thorough. This book is an invaluable resource for those just beginning running late in life and who also don't already own any of Galloway's other books. Much of his guidance on things such as pacing and nutrition may seem like common sense, but sometimes you need to hear it from an expert-and there's also bad advice out there. Read "the low carbohydrate scam."Galloway is well known in the running community for his run, walk, run, method, and it is covered here as well as techniques such as his "magic mile."The purpose of this book is as clear as it is necessary for older people to internalize- get moving. Galloways states, "Unfortunately many people over the age of 50 believe they cannot, or should not increase their level of exercise." I hear it myself. This book debunk that thinking, and I believe, will motivate the skeptic and the sedentary to beginning a new, healthy way of life. I know I want to not only live longer but live healthier and more active as well.Buy this book, then get moving.

Pretty Basic Info
I am not particularly in agreement with some of his advice in this book. The running guidance is pretty basic and just common sense, but he takes it to an OCD level with his ratios and formulas and such. Don’t listen to any of his guidance on diet and nutrition. He is off target. Rather seek guidance from a functional medicine practitioner. Not impressed with this book and mad at myself for buying it.

Better than expected.
Galloway’s extensive coaching and running of seminars has given him a depth of practical knowledge that few possess; there is wisdom from seeing thousands of runners try different training methods. I enjoyed the practicality of this book on the subjects that you can see in the table of contents. I will reread this book every year or two to remember wonderful points about cross training, fueling, the Magic Mile, and other topics discussed by Jeff.

Good info
I started jogging because of his run walk interval approach, It made running less intimidating and less elitist. I really like his books and have done 2 marathons and 8 half marathons using his method. He has a free app that is a nice interval timer to implement this method.

Useful and encouraging
I have been running for over 20 years. I am now 71 and am running about 25 miles per week. I've read more than 20 books on running. This book is the most encouraging and the most practical. If you're over 50 and want to keep running or to start running. Get this book, unless you have an excellent personnel running coach.

Great for re-starting
I was a runner for 20 years and stopped for the last 15 or so. I retired and getting back into it to train for a marathon. The author's plans are perfect for building mileage but not getting injured. Sage advice for a 66 year old.
