Three Billy Goats Gruff

My children loved this story when they were little 30 years ago. I am now buying the book for their kids. The story is simple but intriguing - it has a monster, it has some repetition, it has sturdy though simple pop-ups. But in the original, the biggest billy goat butted the troll off of the bridge to be swept away in the stream - good triumphs over evil. In this version, the billy goats stay away from the troll after tricking him, and the troll just packs his bag and moves away -- confrontation avoided. Somehow, it's not quite right.

Nostalgia! This is a story I grew up with...and enjoyed the record as much as the book! This is the perfect modern day reflection of my own happy memories.

THE CD helps with the students understanding the book. GREAT COMBO!!

The original ending was replaced with a watered down version where the troll chickens out and sneaks away instead of being knocked over the bridge by the largest goat.

My Three year olds find the troll a little scary. But the story is cute.

Book and CD are enjoyed by kindergarten students.

I will always give books 5 stars :) oh and the poor troll doesn't fall in the river in this one!

Lovely book, my Grandson loves it and keeps saying "read it again Nanna, read it again".

This is a very useful addition to my collection of traditional stories. I like the pictures and the cd is wonderful for the children to follow. I like the way the troll in this story just packs up his bags and leaves. I like the children are great fans of lift the flap books and feel this makes it more exciting for the children. We had a lot of guesses as to what would be underneath. If you are starting a collection or have already got some of these books this would be a worthwhile addition.

I bought two of these for two three year old girls. They both love the book, the story, the wonderful illustrations and the CD.Reasonably priced and very good quality. When I saw the book I then ordered a second because I could see the quality of the book.Both girls like stories and especially fairy stories so these have been read and re-read.Excellent.
