Really great product!!!
Ok so this needs a review. I live in Ohio where it gets cold. I have had this for while now and it has worked flawlessly. It runs one shower with zero problems. I do not see it running two at the same time in the winter, but very possible in the summer and warmer weather. Before I bought this I called the warranty department to just test how they would respond. They were great to me. Then I told them what I was doing and the lady said “I don’t blame you” and wasn’t upset with me. We run our water at 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The install was super easy, and it looks very good. It never has a smell when it’s working, and we never any issues with it. We also have a 27kw and it works flawlessly also. This is only because my house is split plumbing. Love the product and highly recommend it.

4 years and still going strong
This water heater is awesome nearly 4 years and going strong. When we bought our fixer upper, this was put in to replace an 80 Gallon traditional HW heater. I wanted the efficiency of not storing water. There are 3 adults in the house, so typical water usage. I ran the 4 sets of high voltage wires to the circuit panel with required 4 double throw 240v circuits, to power it so you have to have a fair amount of room in your service panel to make this work. I love the way it is easy to adjust HW down to 80 degrees. We have a hose hook up for convenience right at the unit in the garage. This makes it easy to do water changes on my fish tank as well are on a well with great water and I don’t have to treat it. Also nice to have warm water for washing cars and we never run out of hot water. Would definitely recommend a buy.

Make sure to register it within 30 days
I bought the unit in May 2023 for an addition I was planning to build onto my house. I didn't open the box or read the manual to learn that there is no warranty unless you register the product within 30 days of purchase until it was too late. As soon as the unit was powered up it had problems with the motherboard. It would not turn on when the water started flowing. I had two master electricians and a master plumber troubleshoot the unit before calling customer service. Both electricians told me the power was good. They could get the unit to turn on by applying pressure to certain places on the control board or wires but it would become unresponsive after. Eventually it quit turning on completely. I reported the problem to customer service and they sent a replacement motherboard free of charge even though I had not registered the warranty. With the new motherboard installed the unit works but will only power on 2 of the 4 heating elements. If the water flow exceeds 1.3gpm the unit returns an error code E5, which usually means the water flow is too high for the unit, but the unit should operate with as much as 6gpm at my incoming water temp of 67°F. I contacted customer support again and they cannot help me. They suggested purchasing a new flow sensor, which doesn't make sense because it is displaying the correct flow amount on the unit; the unit just thinks that 1.4+gpm is too much and will not kick on the other heating elements. All heating elements, thermistors, and the fuse have been checked by a master electrician according to the company's troubleshooting guide. They will not replace the unit because I didn't register the warranty in time. So the unit powers one shower but no more, and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. Lesson learned. Make sure to register any appliance purchase within 30 days and be prepared for the spam emails to surge a bit after they sell your information to data farms.

Limited lifetime warranty, great customer service.
This thing is super high quality! I was expecting a cross between an anvil and a hot water heater for the price. I was impressed the second I took it out of the box. I installed mine myself. I had some plumbing refits since I was going from a tank to tankless. The wiring was pretty strait forward, but these things do pull a ton of amps. I installed mine and all the lights in the house flickered as the heater cores cycled. I had more than enough service to the house. There is a ton of stuff on the web about tankless waterheater doing this, not just EcoSmart. Somewhere outside my house in the power lines there is a loose neutral wire connector. You can forget getting the power company to chase the line and fix it. So now I am freaking out. I have plumbed and wired for this and now I am going to have to send it back and change everything for a tanked heater.....or so I thought. I called EcoSmart and talked to Juan. I explained to him what was happening. He knew what it was doing and he explained to me that they can help. All I had to do was open the control box and move a jumper that slowed down the cycle. I took me longer to open the box than it did to fix it. Now hot water all the time. I have turned on 5 sinks and 2 showers (with the outside temp of 34) just to see what the max I could use at one time. I could not tell a temperature difference with all in use. Last, these things have a limited lifetime warranty. I would recommend any EcoSmart product because of the customer service, the quality, ease of installation, and the lifetime warranty.

Be prepared for problems
We purchased our Ecosmart ECO 36 36kw 240V Electric Tankless Water Heater for our new house under construction. Our builder took it out of the box, a professional and licensed electrician wired it according to specs and a professional plumber connected the water. Then the plumber said, “That’s unusual, there is no hot water coming out.” Our contractor called Ecosmart tech support, where the first question was, did we have the water lines crossed. This took a great deal of convincing tech support and yes, the professional plumber did have the cold water connected to the incoming water line. However, tech support emailed directions for checking the water lines anyway rather than go on to possible problem number 2. Another call to tech support got the suggestion to again check the water lines, and then to check the flow propeller, which is quite difficult to reach inside the incoming water line. (The unit needs a minimum amount of water flow to function.) Once the screen was removed, it was easy to determine the propeller could turn freely. By the time the unit was put back together, tech support on Eastern time had closed for the day. On the next day, the contractor called tech support and was told the third possibility was to check the sensor wire to see if it was plugged into the control unit. Bingo! Once the face panel to the “brains” of the unit was removed, it was clear the sensor wire was not plugged in. Once it was, the hot water flowed. During the conversations with tech support, our contractor asked if there was a local rep who could come out to look at the unit. No, the company offered no onsite tech support. He asked who should we call then to examine the unit. An electrician or plumber was the answer. (As it turned out, of course, neither a plumber — who connects the water — or an electrician — who wires the unit to power — would have found the actual problem. But their charges would have eclipsed the cost of the original unit.) Prior to giving the actual solution, tech support suggested we could remove the unit that we had already paid an electrician to wire and a plumber to plumb and return it to the factory. Easy for them to say, but certainly not customer friendly. We are very grateful to our contractor/builder for taking on solving this problem. Four calls to tech support and hours of his time he didn’t bill us for. He could have told us, “You bought the unit on your own from Amazon, you solve it.” The question arises: For tech support to even consider the possibility that the sensor wire was not plugged into the controller likely means this problem has happened before. So, how is it possible for units to leave the factory in this condition? Is no one checking this basic component? Why wasn’t this possibility suggested in the first call to tech support? And, if so, what else could be wrong with the unit that we will only discover once we start using it? Now an update: We took our first showers last night after a year of doing “navy showers” in the RV we have been living in since starting construction. The hot water was great, consistent and ongoing. What a joy! The hot water was five stars; the technical problems with the unit, not so much.

Don't expect it to function like a traditional tank.
After extensive research we chose this unit and the largest they offer because of our house hold size and usage. So far so good it has been running three years strong now and we still love it. We have a family of 5 and and I don't have much in the way of complaints. It still has its limitations... You can't run the dishwasher, the shower, the sink, etc all at once much like a traditional tank. However, once the teenager is done with his 6 hour shower am not waiting to a traditional tank to fill and heat back up. My tub is about a bagillion gallons and it stays hot the whole time while filling. After 3 years it seems the savings is negligible on the electric cost but the over all benefit of never ending hot water is worth it. We did the install ourselves but truly.. not for the faint of heart. My husband and I have loads of experience in stuff like this. The 36KW requires 4- 40amp breakers. That's 4 breakers with double switches so you need to make sure that you have at least 8 open slots in your breaker box otherwise you'll have to upgrade. Also, keep in mind you need to upgrade all your faucets to Low Flow if you haven't already. Make sure you hook the cold in and hot out up correctly, it's labeled on the bottom of the box. Check, then check again and a third time otherwise you wont get any hot water if it's backwards. (Might have done this and took a little troubleshooting to figure out what was wrong. Thought it was the unit at first) When the unit cuts on it's silent. I totally expected something... I don't know what but, I was surprised it was silent. Also, it makes the lights flicker ever so slightly. Rightly so too, it is sucking a ton of power when it's on. Note that I have 200 amp service and it only makes my NON LED lights flicker. We only have a few regular bulbs left, we've just been replacing them as they burn out. I read other reviews that showed that you need to set it higher then a normal tank. It's true.I like my showers at about 110 degrees (which is way hotter then most people) and I had to crank the unit all the way to the max 140 degrees to get about 112 at the furthest shower. My old tank was set at like 135. But, keep in mind we also have copper pipe and the shower is about 50-60 feet away from the unit so we loose a good bit from the unit to the tap. I expect once we upgrade the pipes and insulate it'll help.- turns out it's true. The PVC pipes loose less heat. Our sinks that are still hooked to copper take longer to heat. Overall after you work out the kinks to get it functioning the way you like it, it is AMAZING to have hot water after my teenage son showers. He is in there forever and he would always run the old tank dry which meant the rest of us had to wait. Seriously, with 5 of us all fighting for evening showers/baths and a million loads of laundry and dishes and everything else you really can't go wrong with endless hot water. No more waiting for the old tank to heat up!

Go big - its worth the little extra!
I did extensive research before purchasing a tankless water heater. The common problem seems to be that people are reading the GPM a unit is capable for their area and are expecting a nice hot shower. The GPM listed is based on heating water to only 105 degrees which is nice and warm out the unit, but by the time it gets to the other end of the house, it is barely body temp, if that. We found it needs to output between 120 and 125 degrees to get a nice hot shower (using no cold water). This in turn ups the kW required to heat the water... So to be safe, I picked the biggest model available right now (36 kW) and are tickled to death over the performance. It is solid, steady source of hot water for both showers at the same time. Love it. -- Note: If you don't have four 40 amp breaker slots available, no problem! Still get this bad boy and start off with 2 or 3 circuits(whatever you have available) and it'll use what you give it (albeit you may have to limit use to just one item at a time)... allowing you time to wire up for more power later. UPDATE (5/15/2016): It had performed flawless for about 4 months. Then, suddenly, one day it said "OFF" and nothing we did (even with tech support via phone/email) fixed the problem. So, we had 3 days of cold water in the home until a new controller card arrived. Installed it (pretty easy) and voila! we're back in business. Tech support was easy to reach and the part was delivered via 2-day service. However, since then, it has turned itself completely off (not even light up) for no apparent reason. No breakers tripped... but recycling the breakers restored service. It has been a month now since last time it did that. -- I am still very happy with the purchase and would recommend it for anyone thinking about trying it.

FANTASTIC WATER HEATER!!
Awesome product and quality. I did alot of research and ended up buying this and it is great. We have a family of 4 and I will never get used to not having to wait on hot water. We can take showers back to back and not have to wait on the water to warm up. We had a 50 gallon water heater in a closet that was not usable. Now we have a coat closet and shoe closet due to having this. I would recommend this to anyone looking to buy a tankless water heater. The install was easy but had to add breakers and more qire but worth every penny and no storing water. It will save you on electricity over time its a no brainer.
