Repetition for those important Math concepts!
For children who do not grasp a concept easily and need repetition for several days this book is PERFECT! We recently switched our Math curriculum to this series as the one we were using "jumped" all over the place and the children were just not grasping each important math concept. This book is not too wordy, so if you have a reluctant reader then this book will work for them. Many of the pages have an example of one of the problems already filled in and completed which is another great bonus for your child. At the beginning along with the introduction are several pages of games, activities and puzzles which are excellent. This is followed by 7 Main Units with sub units:1 - Number Sense 12 - Patterns and Algebra 13 - Measurement 14 - Probability and Data Management 15 - Number Sense 26 - Patterns and Algebra 27 - Measurement 2Simple and methodical yet challenging at the same time.Price is EXCELLENT! Our other Math books were costing $40 a piece so this is a really great price. Some may wonder if you needed the supporting curriculum to work with these books. We have not found that to be necessary. This book is independent and the instructions are very self-explanatory. NOW please note there are no answers, those can be found online, BUT at this level an answer book is not needed at all.If you have a child that LOVES Math, then he/she is going to just want to keep working on this book. If you have a reluctant child then the pages are not too overwhelming.Highly recommended from our house to yours.

Dollar Store Quality - Tiffany's Price
First of all, the quality of the book is pretty shabby. Within the first day it literally separated at the binding. My husband said return it, but I didn't have the heart since my boy had already marked in it. Anyway, that is what tape is for right? The paper is newsprint which is also annoying. Pencil is hard to see, so your child needs to either use a ball point pen or crayons. Crayons are frustrating for doing more serious written math work. You can not use a marker either because it will bleed through the newsprint paper and completely wipe out the reverse page and the following page. Alas, my son better get the math right the first time, because everything is done in pen. Sigh. The lessons are pretty good when you find one that your child needs. But I feel like the content is a bit all over the place and not entirely helpful in moving a child through a future curriculum effectively. I thought it would bridge the gaps for my son, but it doesn't really. We do counting on at one place in the book then patterning and different addition strategies. I am just not sure this book respects the funnel or the order in which a child needs to learn material to be successful later. I will confess that I may be an overly harsh critic here. My son is dyslexic and the book offers many visual aids to learning concept, I feel they are not graphically interesting or are more on the rudimentary side when they are offered. My son is a diligent worker, but we often hit obstacles when he is required to write the numbers or work to read a math sentence. This isn't bad or fault of the book, but because we never know when those pages are coming, my son rejects the work entirely and the purpose of why we got the book in the first place (review - keeping skills sharp - new subject intro) goes out the window. I would not recommend this book. You might be able to find something better at the dollar store and save yourself the money.

Excellent Math program!
Our home schooling family uses multiple types of math curriculum - so far, this is our favorite and we supplement most with Hands on Math. My girls actually enjoy doing math with these workbooks. We do supplement, however, it is not due to any particular weakness in this curriculum as much as it is that we like to approach math in various ways to have a well rounded math program. I recently started my kindergartener on the grade 1 book (could not find a kindergarten book in this program - however - the grade 1 book starts with the basics and is just what she needs). My second grader finished the grade 2 book very quickly and now we are in the grade 3 book - she is advanced in math and may finish the year in the grade 4 or even grade 5 book. I have found that some of the teaching styles are very different from other curriculum options, however, it is easy to understand and I appreciate the different perspective. I would highly recommend this book for both homeschooling and supplementing at home for public school taught children.

Great Math Books
We used Jump at home last year and we will be using them during the coming school year as well.I really like the progression which seems to be a nice rate of learning--not too fast or slow. I appreciate the way that they build up to large concepts by intruducing the first step of the process, then expanding that idea.Homeschooling has been a great thing for our family and it's relieving to have such a solid math curriculum when there are so many bad/insufficient ones out there.Just a note-as a US citizen, you may have to explain a few things to your child--the book has Canadian flags, reference to Canadian currency, "colour" instead of "color", etc.. I look at it as an opportunity to enjoy a different culture with my children.

Well scaffolded math curriculum
I'm a math teacher and I love this program. I have my kids working a grade up for their summer work. The JUMP methodology is awesome and very well scaffolded for elementary kids. One of my favorite aspects of this Grade 2 book is how effectively they are able to introduce algebra. It's very intuitive using "steps" and it's something I plan to bring into my high school classrooms to reinforce the concepts. Highly recommend.

Very simple and quick
This book includes a large section at the beginning with games and activities to reinforce the concepts, then there are the actual worksheets for the kids to do. My son is really enjoying it so far. We'll see how it goes as we get further into some of the harder problems. I think it's quite a good value though. I do wish there were a little more explanation with some of the worksheets.
