Wombat Goes Walkabout : Michael Morpurgo: desertcart.in: Books Review: A unique story and wonderful life lesson to learn.. Enjoyed reading it with my kid - One day Wombat woke up and thought, “I think I’ll dig a hole today.” Wombat loved digging holes. So off he went and dug a deep, deep hole. He crawled inside and sat there in the cool and the dark and began to think, because Wombat loved thinking too. He thought to himself , ” Why is the sky blue? Why am I a wombat and not a kangaroo ? And this is how the unique story of a burrowing plant-eating Australian marsupial, which resembles a small bear with short legs starts. It’s one of our favorite as it conveyed a special message and gave us a glimpse of Australian animals through beautiful verbs accompanied by pencil sketches. This is a brilliant book for 5 to 7 years old kids, who are exploring verbs and learning about new animals. A Special Message: This story of Wombat conveys a message, that everybody in this world is unique in their own way and have special skills. When all the other animals in this story show off their skills and do not appreciate wombat’s talent, it’s wombat who tries to save everyone from danger engulfing the forest. Do you want to meet Australian Animals? Author of this book Michael Morpurgo takes us for a ride to the “Australian Outback”, where Wombat has lost his mother and while looking for her in bushes he wanders and meets with all different kind of creatures: Kookaburra,Wallaby, Possum, Emu, Boy, and Koala. Explore verbs for Animal sounds and Movements: The best part of this book is that, the Author has chosen variety of verbs to describe “animal movements” like: cackling kookaburra, hopping wallabies, swinging possums, hunting boys, scampering emus, and dozing koalas. Also if you get a chance to read this book you will find that instead of using “Said” every time he has used verbs like cackled, laughed, snapped, called and asked. This book is not only a treasure for verbs but it also introduces kids with animal habitats and their special skills and features. Illustrator Christian Birmingham has beautifully described this story through his pencil sketches and red-gold pastel paintings. Review: Loved it - Loved the book. The story is nothing new.... a young one gets lost and goes searching for his Mumma, but what I loved is that you get to learn about so many animals of Australia that we don't have here in India

Australian widlife
A lovely story and a great way to introduce your kid to Australian animals. Four stars instead of five because the pictures are very faded. Don't know if it's a problem with my copy or the original artwork is like this.

Âgée de 7 et demi, ma fille belgo-australienne adore ce livre ! Cette histoire lui redonne envie de retourner au pays des kangourou !

I discovered this book when I was visiting Australia and loved it. I bought a copy while there and have since bought two more to give away. My husband, he's a musician, and I even wrote a song that is loosely based on the book and the story of the wombat. My nephew, three years old at the time, loved (and still loves) the book (and the song!). The story is simple and engaging and the illustrations are very nice. I kept a copy for myself.

A simply enchanting story and beautifully illustrated. Read it to my own children and have bought it as a gift for others.
