Classic game on its classic CD format. Why bother then?
Starcraft is an excellent game! This case includes the original and Brood War expansion, with its own CD Key. This is version v1.15.2. A real time strategy game that will let you choose between Terran, Zerg and Protoss races in order to conquer your enemies. It includes six campaigns (two for each race) that, when played in order, allows you to follow Jim Raynor and the Confederacy, Zerg Cerebrates and the Queen of Spades, and Protoss Fenix and Tassadar in a story swamped with achievements, tough losses and nice plot twists. The difficulty of the campaigns get harder as you progress. Besides campaigns, Starcraft has a wide array of simple maps that will pit 2 or more players (human or computer controlled) against each other, allowing for almost infinite possibilities. Even more, the game includes a very intuitive Map Editor that allows to create your own maps, add special objectives and cool special effects, taking your creativity to the next level. At the present time, Blizzard is offering this game for free through its Battle.net platform. Though that is the absolute cheapest option, for some reason it takes almost 2 GB of hard disk space, and will not run on the now obsolete-to-be 32-bit systems or with outdated video cards (why??). For 99% of the customers, storage and operative system are not an issue anymore, but this is a genuine and sealed alternative that works as well as it used to be. Plus, it offers a brand new CD Key for multiplayer purposes. I am not certain about the Battle.net compatibility with the current platform, but works well for serial, LAN (and modem, why not?) multiplayer. En Taro Adun.

I only received 1 of the 2 CDs
I only received 1 of the cds in the two cd package so the game won't install without cd 2. The inside of the case even says 2 cds.

Been years since i've played it but it's a great game
I love this game plain and simple. It's unfortunate that Battle.net doesn't enforce some kind of anti-hack integration though. You have to download it through the internet and let's face it, you don't know what is on the other end. So for that reason I rate it at 4 stars. Cheating is part of the human experience, but that's why there's rules and enforcement established in control it..

Stopped working after the 4th level. Wouldn't load anymore will only freeze. Careful what you buy try to beat it as soon as possible to make sure you have a good copy. Expansion pack doesn't work either

Best Game of its Era
Star Craft brings back many fond old memories, many of them thought lost. It works with Win 7 x64 too. Both disks must be installed to complete the installation. No updates to download are necessary to begin playing. When launching, the CD is not required to be in the CD ROM tray. When starting the game, you can choose between the original and the Brood Wars expansion in the splash screen. For an older title, there is not a lot of adjustment that can be done to alter the graphics resolution as it is fixed, but the graphics and colors are ample for a 22 inch flat panel widescreen display. It is the classic simplicity of StarCraft that make it so much fun and give it so much replay value.

I cannot really say much else than what has already been said. Despite the age of this game, it still plays extremely well and is also played very often in gaming tournaments (worldwide, although the best players tend to reside in South Korea - where they actually have a TV channel dedicated to this game) to this day as a result of this. Anyway, I have been playing this game on Vista 64bit perfectly fine (without changing any settings) providing that I launch the game through the installer on the disk - so that's not an issue either (at least not for me). This is my first review so it is probably all over the place, so I'll try to summerise pros and cons. Pros: - Active community (after many, many years!) - Very rewarding when you win (this game is hard!) - Very well balanced between the 3 factions (Terran/Humans, Zerg, Protoss) - The units actually have personality (you'll see what I mean when you play) - Fast-paced and strategy-heavy (even minor things like ground-height advantages come into play) so it doesn't revolve around slinging huge armies at eachother like other RTS games (I'm looking at you; Command and Conquer!) - An overall enjoyable experience Cons: - The computer is hard (and it cheats as it can see the entire map instantly)and will likely destroy newer players. - The graphics are dated, although not at all terrible. - You can only select 12 units at a time, which is annoying despite how much it makes strategy/micromanagement more important. In conclusion I say that the pros dominate the cons and that you should definitely buy this game (or at least watch some tournament videos on the internet - which inspired me to play (and buy) this. Sorry for the messy first review, I'll try better next time! P.S. The Broodwar game actually adds onto the StarCraft program. You have the option of what version you want to play within each of the main menu's modes. Surprisngly, Broodwar (the expansion content) is the one that championship tournaments use - so I'd suggest sticking to that for multiplayer.
