Blender For Dummies

A ton of information
The media could not be loaded. Â The book is pretty flimsy but it has most of the information you need to get into blender.

Must have Blender book.
This is a must have book for Blender. The explanations are good and there is a lot of information in this book. The one thing that would benefit it is more examples. Some topics are not covered at all, but this is the nature of Blender. There is just too much to cover in one book. I wish the author would have written a follow up book. Also, this book was written for Blender 2.8, so it is showing its age in that respect but it's not a huge problem.

Too Dummy to use Dummies
Blender is not something that is easily learned in a book. It gives a lot of head knowledge, when what Blender students need is hands on. Also, this book covers Blender 2.8 when my version is 3.2. Much has changed. Better to go to the learning videos and follow with them, however, I keep my book around for references.

fantastic book
I found my self very frustrated trying to learn Blender because of the sheer magnitude and complexity of the program, and the official online documentation was hard to follow. This book is organized very well. So far, many things I have read in this book has made a lightbulb go off in my head. "Oh THAT's why they do that!". If I had looked at this book before I had some experience with blender I might have found it hard to follow. There is no substitute for hands on learning and gaining muscle memory through sheer repetition, however if you follow this book in conjunction with physical familiarity with the program, what he is saying becomes more intuitive. I don't find this book boring at all. It is well thought out, comprehensive, and accessible. I'm glad I found it.

Covers blender's many hotkeys and features very well. But is 2.8 I think.
I am using 2.9x, but got this just for the coverage of 2.8. He does a thorough job of covering all the features and hotkeys and with a little experimentation is a perfect companion even if you are using 2.9x. There is NO comparable book for 2.9x. :-|

I found this very helpful
I'm not sure why some are complaining. I've never worked in Blender, but I found this book, coupled with some video tutorials, to be extremely helpful to me in learning the program. The short cut lists are especially useful, and the enthusiasm about the Blender community is great.

WhySoManyUselessBooks
Too much useless details for both beginners and expert's. Fail to explain difficult areas. Not structured for reference. Not really sure who would benefit from this book?!

Never again with Dummies and this author - Deceiving
I knew Blender is a very complex software. Extremely powerful but complex. I knew even though the cover states "Learning made easy" - it would be anything but. And I was correct. I didn't mind how hard it is to follow and understand the content. However, what I am disappointed in was the lack of actual examples and helpful contents on the Author's website - as he claims he provides. Worst, on the chapter involving rigging, the author claims he has both rigged and unrigged stick figure to practice along. That would have been nice as this is a very complicated process. Also, there is no way to contact the author to ask questions or request missing contents. I tried contacting Wiley's and all they told me is they can't help me. How's that for customer service!!!

Not much help so far
I'm a fairly experienced Python programmer and have used other 3d software before I decided to try Blender. There are a lot of tutorials for Blender on line but many of them are so old (just a few years!) that the examples they give don't work due to software updates. Blender's online documentation is obscure to say the least. So what I needed was an uptodate book to flip through and look for answers. The reviews of this book promised help - so far the book has not provided it. Particular failings include references like "Booleans are done with a modifier. Modifiers are covered in more detail in Chapter 5" (p 94). Yes, it is true that modifiers are covered in Chapter 5, but Booleans get a few unhelpful lines (p142). The book refers on further materials being available online "because of the limitations of book size" (p117) - so far I haven't found anything useful. In places the figures purport to show how to use menus, but the printing is so blurred (see for eaxmple figure 7-10) that they are impossible to read.I'm dissappointed with this book and would not have bought it if I had even a quick flip through in a bookshop. Not even a quick reference to hot keys - rather like producing a book on basic chemistry without a periodic table (apart from a rather useless table 3-1). Maybe some might find it helpful, but for a Python programmer looking to get a foothold om Blender's steep learning curve, forget this one.

Good for getting started in Blender 3D program
Bought for my daughter who is studying Animation at University.Simple, easy to follow information (with useful tips & warnings!!!) - my daughter is autistic & dyslexic & she has managed to work with this book fine!In fact, at her first Blender class yesterday, her tutor recommended they use this book!

Helpful, but...
I bought this as an update to the version made for 2.79 many years ago. Whilst informative with helpful examples that paint clear pictures, I had to do further research on shader nodes.

Where are the cameras placement instructions?
That book is probably OK for modelling, texture, rigging etc. (seldom done profesionnaly in Blender I would have thought), but completely useless for camera work, camera placements and animating/editing cameras. I work as a storyboar artist, and I would like to be able to place/save my cameras on any given sets already provided to me, and I was hoping this book would give tips on how to do that. But no joy whatsover. Waste of my time. I'll now have to use ye' olde YouTube tutorials instead.
