Sliced To Perfection!
This Benriner Mandoline Slicer is absolutely the best quality mandolin! It a perfect gift for a bridal shower, as a house warming gift, or as a gift when invited to dinner or just for yourself. Do be careful because the blades are sharp and a careless slip can cause a serious cut. You can use gloves that are made to prevent these cut, but I've never had a problem because I'm careful when I get towards the end of the item I'm cutting. This mandolin is a time saver in the kitchen espscially if you do any canning, dehydrating or cooking for a crowd. I love thin cucumbers on a salad and this will do that. This also makes prepping stirfry ingredients a breeze. Mushrooms, peppers and carrots are sliced in a matter of minutes. The consistent thickness of my potatoes means the potatoes in my scalloped potatoes will be cooked at the same time. I have two of these in different sizes and it's my favorite kitchen gadget and my favorite gift to give! I bought my first one more than 20 years ago and I still use it today!

The OG--Easy to Use & Clean--Sharp!
I looked at lots of fancy mandolines here on Amazon, but this is the original and it works like a dream. You can feel the Japanese engineering--simple, sturdy and well-made. Removing and changing blades is intuitive and easy, and the blades are frighteningly sharp. Ease of cleaning was key for me, because if a cooking tool is a pain to clean I stop using it. This is very easy to clean and dry. Be careful with colored vegetables like carrots. Get the mandoline in hot, soapy water immediately after using so it won't stain the light almond color. Lightly scrub with a nylon brush and you're good to go. Lots of attachments, and they all work great. Pro tip: Splurge and get the mesh gloves. You don't want to tear your hands up on this crazy sharp blade!

Easy to use and slices veggies quickly
This was a top pick with America’s Test Kitchen and my son, he’s a chef, said it was a top brand too. I found it easy to use, once I figured out the adjustments that could be made. The blades are very sharp which made quick work of potatoes and onions. Be sure and use the device to hold the vegetables! Wished I’d gotten one years ago.

A good choice
I have had a couple of other mandolin slicers but was not happy with them. The problem with one was that it had way too many parts....bins, stands, brushes to clean, chutes. Getting it out for some small slicing task was like driving you Ferrari to pick up a gallon of milk. I chose this based on recommendations from chefs and overall have been pretty pleased with the results: Pros: VERY sharp blades for ease of slicing Extra vertical blade inserts (3) to produce slices across two axies. Easy to clean Easy to exchange blades Consistent slices once you achieve the desired thickness. Great for cross slicing apples for salads and other dishes. Really brings out the flavor. Great for cross slicing carrots into thin strips for salads. I also try to compost as much of our food waste as I can and we love fresh melon for breakfasts, but once you have gotten the fruit, the rinds are a pain in the neck to slice into smaller slices for composting. The Berliner does that job a lot more easily. Cons: VERY sharp blades. I also purchased a pair of anti-cut gloves that I use with this device for those times when I am getting near the end of something I am slicing or an inadvertent slip of the hand. They have already saved me a couple of times and are well worth the added cost. Slice thickness adjustments: Other mandolins offer adjustments that work at set increments. This is infinitely variable, but done with a large knob rotated underneath. Sometimes when you want to get a thicker slice and back off the knob to lower it the feed side of the device, you have to manually press down on the feed table ahead of the blade to get it to descend to the full depth you have dialed in. It seems to stick a bit and the adjustment knob sometimes feels like it is binding. Hoping that over time, both will loosen up a bit. Slicer Guard: This unit comes with a plastic device with teeth underneath it designed to safely guide vegetables across the blade while keeping your hand out of the way. This works fairly well, but the vegetable can sometimes come loose of the teeth, especially when you are down to the final slices. It's a cheap thing and for the price, I think Berliner should provide a more solid metal holder. Once final piece of advice.....for safety, I recommend cranking the feed table to its maximum height which positions it slightly ABOVE the blade. That reduces the risk that in handling the device, your fingers might slide across the blade. Bottom line: A good mandolin....does the job, but take precautions for your own safety.

Holy Grail of Mandolins
As a chef, I have used my fair share of mandolins over the years. But, hands down, the one I have used and loved the most is the As a home cook, I have used my fair share of mandolins over the years. But, hands down, the one I have used and loved the most is the Benriner! One of the things I love most about the mandolin is how sharp it stays and the high-quality construction. The mandolin itself is incredibly versatile - it has a variety of thickness settings, so you can easily slice, julienne, and shred a variety of fruits, vegetables, etc. Plus, the included safety guard ensures that your fingers stay safe while you're using the mandolin. Which you should absolutely use. In terms of cleaning, the Bernier mandolin is a breeze. It's dishwasher-safe, so you can easily toss it in the dishwasher after use. Overall, highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, versatile mandolin for their kitchen. It's the best one I've used and I don't think I could live without it!

This is a great piece of kit. I make a lot of preserves, especially at Christmas time and this mandoline made very light work of 3 kilos of red onions this morning which have now been turned into relish. My old OXO one was years old and, as it wasn’t sharpenable like this Benriner one is, has become dangerous and also just wouldn’t cut onions or tomatoes etc any more. As it is very sharp, you obviously need to use the holder provided or wear a cut glove (as I do). Even so, care is needed just the same as using any sharp blade. I’m very happy with my purchase and think this will last a very long time.

This is nice and easy to use but watch that you don't slice your fingers, it's very sharp. I used it to prepare fruit and vegetables for dehydration and it worked very well for this purpose. Larger vegetables like squash have to be cut into smaller pieces first, but it is fine for even larger size apples. I did not try it with softer fruit like plums, mangoes, or tomatoes, but I think it would be fine as the blades are very sharp, as long as the pits are removed first. You could also use this for making your own potato or yam chips. It is easy to use over a large bowl or pot to catch things in. It seems to be fairly durably made and you can get replacement blades for it, so I expect to get a good number of years of use out of it.
