Simple answer to keeping squirrel out of bird feed
Simple cheap answer to keep squirrel out of bird feed. Was hard for me to believe that resting the plastic dish on clamp would work. But it does and we have multiple birds now instead of squirrel.

Easy to assemble
I got this as a rain cover over an existing hanging feeder. It works just fine. It is a decent size and would probably work well as a squirrel baffle if used for that reason.

It WORKS!!!
I had tried another squirrel baffle before which was solid plastic. The squirrels easily climbed over it or jumped from elsewhere to it and then scrambled up the pole.I was hesitant to try another one but the squirrels in my yard have been climbing up the pole and inhaling the suet cakes in just a day and entirely emptying the bird feeder of its contents. Meanwhile they have plenty of their own food on the ground.I got this 2 days ago and it first thought it seemed rather flimsy but then realized it's flimsiness is why it works! There's nothing for a squirrel to grab onto to try to get over it and if it tries to leap from elsewhere on top of it it's just going to fall to the ground.I've had this up now for 2 days and the bird feeder is still entirely full and the suet cake has only been fed upon by birds! It was super easy to put on the post. The way the bracket is made it can also accommodate any feeder pole. I thought I wouldn't like the look of it but it actually looks quite nice as well. I think the only way they could improve it is to make it clear plastic or dark green.Definitely recommend!Oct 2019 - I've had this baffle for four months now and it's been great! None of the squirrels can get to the feeders above it. I'm now ordering a second one for the other pole.Note that if you want squirrels to leave your feeders GIVE THEM THEIR OWN FEEDERS! I have a dried corn cob holder feeder and also this awesome peanut feeder that only squirrels can get into If you go to Youtube and search "diner feeder ferretocious" you will see it in action. Also scatter some seeds, nuts on the grass for them.

Beware the smart squirrel!
I gave this a 4 star rating because it works. I followed the directions and installed it on my shepherds hook feeder and it kept the squirrels out, for awhile. There must be good water or vitamins in the food but I have 2 smart squirrels that thwarted the dome and got the food. I fixed the problem, till they get smarter, with a heavy zip tie on top of the dome. What the squirrel would do is get under the dome and push the entire dome up till it caught on the feeder, then jumped onto the feeder and ate all the bird food. It stood on the metal bracket under the dome as a leverage point to push up. The heavy zip tie allowed me to put a bigger sized object on the dome that was firmly attached to the pole.

Inexpensive solution
This is a fairly thin plastic shield which is attached by folding it around the pole and then inserting 3 small screws to hold it together. The center is star-sliced so it fits multiple size poles. It will tear or cut easily; not usable for more that 2 seasons I think. I have a metal one also and never had a squirrel get around it, but I did have one get past this because it is slightly smaller and flexible. Overall it is helpful if you don't want to invest in the metal ones, but the metal ones are the only real solution - coupled with proper placement - such as way away from anything the squirrels can climb on.

Lacking a little attention to detail
The baffles require a number of small screws, washers, and nuts to assemble. Those parts were not captured in small plastic bags, but were loose in the big package. In spite of going through the bag multiple times I found I was short some nuts and washers. So, a trip to the hardware store to cover this problem. The brackets when used with a cable don't allow the cones to hang straight, so they are in a tipped attitude. Might work just as well , but looks odd and not quite right.
