Hal Leonard Guitar Tab Method - Books 1 & 2 Combo Edition Book/Online Audio

For the most part, this book is great. It has tons of little riffs, most of which aren't too difficult.On some of them, I wish it would give a little more but there are also several full length songs in it as well.The only criticism I have is for the different sections, it barely describes what some of the tab symbols are and how to play them. It will give you like a short 1 sentence description and then its difficult to go back and find it again.Otherwise its good in the fact it has a CD to play a song, then you know what it should sound like.The other difficult thing is having to modify my amp and pedal for every little riff to try to get the right tone. Gives you a Beatles riff, then a Black Sabbath to Chet Atkins to Metallica all in a row. Overall this book has a lot in it and isn't that expensive. Its a good buy.

There are few guitar method books that teach guitar by reading tab, they require learning standard music notation and learning to read notes is not easy, to say the least. If you want to become a professional musician you will have to learn to read music, but for those of us who just want to learn to play for our own enjoyment, we now have the excellent Hal Leonard Guitar Tab Method. This method will get you to the point where you can pick up the tab books or simply look them up on the internet and learn to play your favorite songs, whatever style of music you are into. And there's no "Mary Had A Little Lamb" here folks! You start off right from the beginning learning to play recognizable riffs from rock and pop songs, and soon you will be playing whole songs like the "James Bond Theme", "Wild Thing" and "Detroit Rock City".One thing I would advise, if you are an absolute beginner you should also purchase a basic instructional DVD. Books can be difficult to learn from if you don't even have your basics yet, a DVD will make learning things like changing chords and strumming so much easier. You will also find many videos on Youtube that are very helpful.

I thought there was a lot of songs in this book. Turns out many songs are just 2 or 3 bars. A bit disappointing. I haven’t tried the on line yet. I may be back to post again after that. I hope it is helpful.

Perfect book to learn from and still have fun.Great songs all in TAB.Just the right amount of theory.Starts with songs that just use the low E string and slowly works you into more advanced techniques one famous and fun song at a time.I just started and two months in I am playing some really cool songs.

Great book to learn to read tabs faster. It teaches you beat counts and what different tab icons mean. Contains over 80 well known riffs and a few full length songs. It does not advertise as a song book, so don't expect 100s of songs. Comes with code to download the book library to play along with, which helps in timing while reading the book correctly.

Great Book. I picket up, and I was playing some of my favorite Chords right-way. The music language is easy to learn, with charts and descriptions. Follow by videos, and music to follo. I recommend this Book. Specially if you just started playing (like me), and got tire of just playing notes. "My Dog was just Howling before, but know we are at tune baby...".

Great having a two in one book.

Recommended by my 10-year olds teacher. Looks good. The Amazon description at the top of the page says "...includes Books 1 and 2 of the series, two audio CDs, plus tons of bonus material." It does not include two CDs but instead a 16-digit access code which is entered into the halleonard website to access the audio. Just as good I guess but the description shouldn't raise expectations by advertising "two CDs".

Served its purpose,10 year old son using it for guitar lessons and now trying for his first grade.
