Exactly what I expected.

I was raised on John W. Schaum and still remember all the great songs. I teach piano and though I use different books for the "method" books (lesson, theory, technique), I've started supplementing with Schaum pieces and the students love them as much as I did. There are recital-grade arrangements of many of the great classics for students to become familiar with (they can play the original forms when they are more advanced), as well as original works by Schaum himself (i.e. "Hear Those Lovely Bells" in book B). There are quizzes on the theory taught in the books. The books are a bit more advanced than the corresponding grade of say Piano Adventure books which I use for method books. I believe it helps the student stretch their skills a bit to play these beautiful pieces.

Great

This book -- indeed, the entire series -- is a classic for a reason. Not every piano student will reach the summits of Beethoven Op. 109. The Schaum series affords the student an opportunity to learn "favorite beloved classics" in a format that is perennially accessible.

I have been continuing my piano learning as an adult after beginning lessons as a child. The Schaum books are an excellent course. They were good when I was young, and now I am using them to teach my children and myself. Schaum uses many arrangements of music by many composers as well as his own compositions. They stand the test of time. The books have been around for at least 50 years and are still relavent.

This is the orange book level D in piano lessons. Excellent series.

I learned on these books waaaay back in the early 1960s. They're still a great approach to learning. And now that I teach, I use the whole series - in addition to outside pieces as part of the transition away from them - to expose students to the wealth of music Classical composers gave us, many of which have no contemporary equivalents.
