The Feelings Book: The Care and Keeping of Your Emotions (American Girl® Wellbeing) Review: A must read for young girls! Great to read together!! - I cannot say enough great things about this book! I got it on a recommendation from a trusted friend, and I am so glad that I did! I have been reading it ever night with my nine year old daughter. Each section covers a topic that makes for great conversations between us. Some of the feelings discussed are anger, sadness, loneliness, jealousy, etc... My daughter always says, "how does it know exactly what I am feeling???" When she realizes that the book is written for girls her age because everyone feels these feelings, it gives her more peace about the emotions she is feeling to know that they are completely normal. There are questions submitted from kids (not sure if they are real or just sample questions, but they are good and easy to relate to), then they offer advice, similar to an advice column in a paper. So far, I haven't found any advice that I disagree with! I like that the advice doesn't offer one solution, but different ideas and suggestions so your daughter can think about what would work best for her personality. These are important topics that need to be discussed. However, I found that many times, they were being discussed as they were happening. It's hard to talk to your child about anger when they are angry. This is an opportunity to talk about them when you are further away from the situation and able to think more clearly. I feel like it has brought my daughter and I closer together. We look forward to reading The Feelings Book every night! Review: Great for pre-pubescent daughter... - I had a Gen-Z co-worker recommend this for my daughter (and the other American Girl books) and it's been a great thing for her. These books have helped her learn more about her body, feelings, and the changes that will be coming. She is now talking to me about these things which allows her to be able to talk about these issues with her body, emotions, feelings, or mind without any stigma.

Excellent book for pre-teen hormonal girls
My daughter has definitely been exploding with hormonal rage lately. After a 1 hour tantrum about brushing teeth I asked some friends for advice and this book was suggested. I thought it may be hard to get my daughter to read it because she isn't a girly girl and has no clue about American girl dolls (or any dolls that aren't Minecraft related). However after telling her about it, her complaining that it looks "too long" she snuck it into her bedroom when I wasn't looking and started reading it. She was intrigued by the survey type aspect of the book, it asks you a bunch of multiple choice questions about who you react to certain situations. And that I think is what has hooked her. Now every night after reading when I go back to tuck her in she is talking to me about the book and asking me questions. This book at the very least has started so good dialogue, and although it contains a lot of things that I have tried to tell my daughter already, because the info is coming from a source other than mom or dad, she is listening. No life changing things happening yet for her, she is still trying to rein in her rage outbursts but we also haven't had any 1 hr tantrums again yet either.

Great Book!
My daughter started 2ng grade this year. She has always loved school but something happened the second day and she shut down. She became very anxious when we'd go, constantly ask to stay home and be homeschooled and has had to see the counselor several times for some help. While we have figured out what we think caused it, this book has been such a great resource for her and myself! She has loved reading it and seeing that these emotions she is feeling are normal. It has helped her to stop her mind when she starts to spiral and realize she will be okay in the end. I highly recommend it!

The Care and Keeping Of Your Emotions
This is a nice little book for children from 9-12 who are having difficulty expressing what they feel, or don't really understand their feelings. It is often difficult for children to express their feelings to parents, and sometimes reading this book together may be perfect for the entire family. I purchased this book for my granddaughter who us 6, but realized reading the first book this was too advanced for her. She can express her feelings but has difficulty understanding what they are, and her parents sometimes have to play guessing games. I do find that I am able to talk with her because I do not represent any type of threat, and I always have her back. She trusts me, but I also know she won't give up her real inner secrets. I did find that this book gave me hints in how to approach some situations by asking explicit questions that involve other people and giving her a few variations of answers. This is a good book for parents to read, and to formulate in their own minds about how to best approach their child when problems arise. All in all, I can see this book would be valuable to the parents and child when they reach the age of 8 or 9. I will keep it handy until then. Recommended. prisrob 08-19-15

Such a great way to connect with your child!
I bought this for my 8 year old daughter. She's been having difficulty expressing how she feels, so instead of being able to say that she's a little jealous, sad, frustrated (whatever it may be), she becomes upset! This book has been great for her. It's easy for her to read alone, yet it has vocabulary that she still needs to ask for help or explanation. It also has nice questions that force her to think and instead of writing artificial answers, I have her think thoroughly and deeper. She's read through the book a few times already! Wonderful way to open your child, and yourself, to the MANY MANY feelings out there. For myself, I found it enlightening. We so quickly forget what it was like to be a small child, not being able to express and put words to how we feel and being frustrated that we can't let someone know that we're hurt and not just mad. I enjoy reading and doing the worksheets with her. Or reviewing it with her and being able to see in to that beautiful brain of hers!

Cuando una adolescente comienza a sufrir cambios hormonales, es muy difícil que comprenda los sentimientos que surgen. Este libro es extraordinario para ayudarlas en ese proceso. Para mi hija ha sido clave en esta etapa de su crecimiento.

My 9 year old daughter was dealing with some feelings that she didn't understand and that were distressing her. We talked but I felt I needed to give her more help and guidance. I bought this book, offering a choice that we could look at it together or on her own. She immediately wanted to read it alone. She loved it! Reading up to 26 pages at a time. Easy to read, great illustrations, paced well. She has learnt so much about herself that she has impressed me. It has really helped her and she asked for the accompanying feelings journal, which I also got her.
