I loved this book
I loved this book, which gave a very good outline of the peoples around the great sea in the ancient past. What I found so interesting is the info about the migrations of peoples around the islands and coastal areas of the great sea. Their religions and their fallen giant heroes naturally followed these as they moved between nation states. Some groups of people moved out of fear of incoming invading armies and others moved for advancement of their own societies, due to depletion of resources by over grazing and destruction of all the trees. The changing climate cycle was also a factor in the movements of these peoples. The great sea area was drying out starting about 1500 BC and this caused allot of problems for these areas. The earth has several climate cycles that effect all areas of the planet with the temperature and moisture available. The timing of these peoples movements is very important and he did a good job of explaining the dates of the rise and fall of various peoples in the early ages of men... His thrust in this book was to set straight the timing of interactions of varies peoples around the great sea.I highly recommend this book to history buffs.

Excellent!
I ordered this for my father who is a big fan of Velikovsky. He's been advising me to read Worlds in Collision and Earth in Upheaval for years and I finally picked them up. I ended up getting a copy of this for myself as well because I've been doing my own research into ancient Egypt. This book is absolutely fascinating and utterly compelling. Velikovsky's timeline makes so much more sense that the accepted historical timeline, which as anyone can see, is full of discrepancies. My father is actually a Bible scholar so I was very interested in hearing his opinion of the validity of Velikovsky's claims. In his opinion, barring only minor differences of opinion, this book is aligned in accordance with Biblical history. Fascinating read. Will be picking up the whole series.

A Revelation
Although Ages in Chaos was written in the 1950s, it is very convincing in explaining the need for science to synchronize the chronology of Middle East nations reaching back to 1500 B.C., and especially the chronologies of Egypt and Israel in Old Testament times.Current archeological studies in the Holy Land indicate catastrophic events did occur throughout the Middle East sometime around 1200 B.C.that caused the collapse of all cultures for centuries. This author has linked the cuneiform clay tablets of other cultures with events recorded in the Old Testament and has found events can be synchronized down to the names of rulers involved on both sides. To me it was a fascinating study.

Truth and consequences!
Velikovsky's writings stirred controversy to the degree that only truth can. When Christ was preparing his disciples for the coming controversies that His truth would generate He said "you will be hate of all men for My namesake". Velikovsky's insight, theories, and writings hit close enough to the mark that he falls under much the same antagonism and hatred. Truth is always a bitter pill to swallow.

love all Velikovsky's books
Scientists don't believe a word he says. I love his books. I think he has been proven right on a lot of stuff.I'm no scientist, so I can't say for sure.

Gaining relevance each day.
One of a series of 3 books. Brilliant, well thought out work that given more recent archaeological finds is even more relevant to egyptology students.

Revising the threads of history
Velikovsky's thesis in Ages In Chaos is that the history of Ancient Egypt is out of synchronisation with Biblical and Scriptural history by around 6 centuries. By comparing the history of Egypt from the Exodus of the Israelis in around 1495 BC which was accompanied by global cataclysm that changed the surface of the planet (see Worlds In Collision & Earth In Upheaval) to the time of Akhnaton with Biblical and Scriptural, and other, sources, Velikovsky is able to prove the truth in his assertions and thus answer many questions the answers to which have long been considered unsolvable riddles by historians.Like Velikovsky's other works Ages in Chaos is hugely absorbing and makes such perfect sense, and is backed up by so much evidence, that it is impossible to ignore. It is easy to see now why Velikovsky was seen by the academic community as such a threat to the status quo - quite simply because the corrected version of history he presented is far more believable, more complete, and backed by more evidence than the accepted - obviously incorrect and certainly incomplete - version of history on which so many academics have built their reputations. I urge all who have not read his works to do so now - you will never look at history the same way again.

Bin your books on Ancient history!
Current stories (Nov. 2013) in the press / TV re King Tut demonstrate that those who should know better are STILL getting the dates of the Pharaohs wrong. This book helps put you right. It can be a difficult read, though, as Velikovsky is very thorough in his explanation. Worth sticking with.

but great for historians trying to piece history
Found this a lot more difficult to read, but great for historians trying to piece history.

A gem of a book at a fair price.
Glad to see this book continues in publication. I wish the publisher had made the pages slightly larger to allow the book to be read more easily near the spine margin. Also, this book has typographical errors, which seems very odd. Typeface and paper are both very readable, however.
